Yeah, Jerry is supposed to be the straight man for all the hijinks of the rest. He’s still funny, but he’s the straight man funny so it doesn’t come across as much / obvious as the rest imo. that’s what makes the episode where he lives in Kramer’s apartment so funny as he starts to act like Kramer because it’s outside of the straight man role
I don't think it's necessarily just that hes the straight man, but he just isn't funny at all really imo. always seems like hes trying not to laugh when someone else makes a joke
Time has proven that Larry David, not Jerry Seinfeld, was what made the show so brilliant. The last two seasons without David are a huge step down, and Curb Your Enthusiasm has rivaled Seinfeld at times. Jerry gets a few good lines, but the real humor comes from the other three characters. Even a lot of the recurring characters shine more memorably than Seinfeld himself.
The show is of course great, but Jerry Seinfeld is probably the most successful/least funny comedian of all time.
George > Elaine > Frank > Kramer > Newman i don't even count Jerry. Jerry is just the vehicle that had to exist to bring us the show.
Jerry's parents are a pretty great depiction of that sort of overbearing older parent that becomes more and more relatable over time.
Which one of you is the funny guy? We had a funny guy with us in Korea. Tailgunner. They blew his brains out all over the Pacific. Nothing funny about that.
They arent haha. They're neither but definitely closer to Jerry. My grandparents were more like Ross and Monica's parents
