I work at a juvenile correctional facility. They go to school year-round. They get Christmas and New Years Day off.
They make fun of me way more aggressively than any of you can. Usually it is more for my receding hairline and how loud I talk.

I taught English for one year, but I am a History teacher and a big reason I gravitated toward it was the history teachers I had in high school. They always seemed to be more in on the joke than the other teachers. Also, none of my English teachers were particularly good until high school and AP Literature.
Cell phones are considered contraband in Florida DJJ facilities and are punished with a misdemeanor. The worst part of the job.
One of the night guards used to work with me when I was in college. He showed them a picture of when I shaved the top of my head but left the sides and back long and curly (like Larry from the Three Stooges). The students bring it up every day.

I was in public schools for the last six years, but I moved and wanted to work with different types of kids. They need a teacher more than stoned suburban kids on their phones.
