Watched it for my first time in October and I’d agree it’s kind of overrated but still really good — realize I don’t have the nostalgia factor as well. I don’t really care for musicals but there are some legit bangers.
I don’t love burdening people with youtube videos, but based on your reasons here this seems like something you might appreciate
Nightmare Before Christmas rules. It's a kids movie, I don't know if you can be fully engaged with it watching it for the first time as an adult. I was mesmerized by it as a child, tho. Ton of bangers, animation is great. Weird as hell for a kids' movie. The reputation of mall goths that is attached to it stinks, because I do think it's a very inventive, solid movie.
The idea of nightmare before Christmas is better than the movie... but sometimes that's enough to make it great. My favorite aspect of it is that it's a stand alone film that hasn't been turned into a franchise. (Yet)
The first Kingsman was a solid satire that a lot of people misunderstood because it wasn’t overt about what it condemned. Haven’t seen the sequel
"Nightmare Before Christmas" gave Henry Selick the clout to make "James and the Giant Peach" and "Coraline," so I'm at least thankful for that. Guy loves to make solid, slightly messed up kids movies.
i had no idea that Nightmare Before Christmas wasn't originally a Disney film or whatever until a coworker randomly told me that like, just last last week. although it makes sense because it doesn't fit at all with the Disney style/theme. i don't remember the movie for shit, just remember "punk" and "goth" kids in high school wearing Jack skullcaps and every other bit of merch Hot Topic sold billions of dollars of
I feel like most falsely label it as a Tim Burton directed film but it’s based on his story and he was a co-producer
i think when i was younger i thought it was in the same universe as Beetlejuice due to the art direction lol
Lmao I love it. Hits the nail on the head for me. But one thing I will admit, I am always blown away by stop motion so it's still fun to watch just to be amazed that humans actually put in all that time and effort to make it. It's a bummer studios today would just take the lazy route and use CGI, it's truly a very cool medium
I will take as much Taron Egerton in Kingsman as I can get. However they may want to go focus on getting this prequel released before trying to make anymore lol
You should check out Laika’s film catalog. Also most of Ardman’s work. Stop motion is still alive thankfully
