I also thought Drive was terribly overrated, but I didn't think it was awful or anything. Haven't seen it in a good 4 years or so so I can't really speak to exactly why, but I do remember watching it and not understanding it's impossibly high praise.
You know that's not true :-D Better than Memento, Insomnia, The first two batmans or Inception!? I'll give it that it's above his last 2 without a doubt.
I enjoyed the soundtrack and the feel of the film. Maybe that's why I enjoyed it. Though I haven't seen it in years.
Man you have to lol. There are both a list of amazing movies that have come out or the list of terrible things in Interstellar.
without having to list, this pretty much sums it up and are all true. Just doing a quick search for movies that came out this year I found all these were better IMO: Whiplash, The Raid 2, The Lego Movie, Captain America Winter Soldier, Days of Future Past, Foxcatcher, Edge of Tomorrow, 22 Jumpstreet, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Guardians of the Galaxy, Birdman, Nightcrawler, The Equalizer, Gone Girl, John Wick, Fury, Big hero 6, The Interview, Kingsman. Doing that list made me realize how entertainment I make time for in my life lol.
True, I need to get rid of the wife, kids and other responsibilities They just get in the way of my music/movie/tv/game life I want.
Drive = style > substance. Like, that elevator scene is really well shot, I guess you could say that about the whole movie, but that's about it. That's how I feel about the Revenant. I fucking love Emanuel Lubezki so I'll pretty much watch anything where he is the cinematographer, but The Revenant is a garbage movie and that last shot can go fuck itself.
100% agree. Revenant is beautiful to look at but besides the beginning and the end, its "10 mins of nature shots, Leo crawls for a bit, passes out, repeat". Movie would have been pretty good had they cut an hour out of it.
Hahaha. Good lord, this was so baffling to me. I think the Oscars are complete horseshit but if Leo was to win an Oscar for anything, it should have been Wolf of Wall Street. Leo acting in severe conditions and eating a raw fish is not equal to "great acting". Maybe...."most acting"? Lol
oh no! You are right, the guy who did Birdman did this right? What did the guy from Gravity go and do?
You're thinking of Alfonso Cuaron, who I was a huge fan of until Gravity. Children of Men is one of my favorite movies of all time and he made Harry Potter and the Prizoner of Azkaban, the best HP movie; both shot by Emanuel Lubezki
Alfonso Cuaron is the good one. Y Tu Mama Tambien and Children of Men are both masterpieces. Gravity is good if underwhelming in comparison. He made a Harry Potter film I know nothing about. He works very slowly so it might be a while for what comes next. Inarritu is the bad one, one of the increasing number of filmmakers to miss the point in multiple languages.
I forget who wrote the article, but you can replace the word Best with the word Most and understand the Academy Awards better. It is almost always about showmanship rather than actual craft.
Cool, thanks. All you need to know about the HP film he did was he took the film in a more serious and dark route while still balancing it as a kids movie. It may be the best of the bunch. I agree with you and Bloodsucker that Children of Men is awesome, and I should have known it was him doing it since they both have crazy long shots in between cuts.
You should watch the first two HP movies just so you can watch Cuaron's, the third, and then decide from there if you care to continue but Prizoner of Azkaban is really good. That's fine. I'm not saying you're dumb for liking the movie, but so many people tout that that movie is much deeper than it actually is and I think that's largely just cause of the way it's shot.
