vase has responded to zero of my posts like explaining how eastern could possibly in any scenario auto-correct to asian
What the actual fuck are you taking about? Fucking pay attention if you're going to just jump into something.
This idea that media doesn't influence society is an overcorrection to the pushback to conservatives blaming Columbine on Marilyn Manson and video games or when they said that rock music was devil worship. Media impacts our lives and ideas all the time, and not just in a situation like someone claiming they were influenced to kill from Catcher in the Rye. Authoritarian governments wouldn't ban subversive material if it didn't matter. Corporations wouldn't spend millions of dollars on advertising. In many ways fiction can be more influential because of its ability to work as an allegory.
To be fair, Vase originally said ‘Eastern’ and then Morissey changed it to ‘Asian’, unless I missed a fast edit or something.
Reductio ad absurdum. Idealistically wishing American government could be functional enough to allow for people of differing beliefs to govern in humane good faith has proven to be a fantasy, and real politicians using fiction as a playbook for their real-life job is stupid, but comparing its intent to fucking Riefenstahl is so utterly disingenuous.
Well, if I'm going to be a dick either way in people's eyes, I'm not going to just take slander or anything like that. I want them to have their facts straight before just shooting off.
Well it's not either way. You could just not insult people and be aggressive lol. Also, her facts were completely straight so that's even worse. All of those quotes were from before she arrived.
There was nothing disingenuous about it. You claimed that what the intent of the author is does not matter, rather what people take from it. All media is full of morals and messages.
And you chose art with an actively hateful, rather than misguided, intent. There's no way someone with working observational skills is watching The West Wing and reading a hateful intent.
You're the one assessing value based on the morality of authorial intent. You tell me. There HAS to be an area between "Good and pure art which is free from anything I disagree with" and LITERAL Nazi propaganda, dude.
You are changing the topic. You are the one who said the author's intent did not matter, rather the interpretation of others. You equated people taking the politics of The West Wing literally (which was Sorkin's intent) with a murderer who killed a celebrity and blamed an unrelated book.
Well yes, it's an actual conversation, not asking someone to stop being a dick for no reason and being met with a brick wall.
I wasn't insulting anyone here. I legitimately meant that I thought you and @Morrissey's conversation was more interesting.
Nope. Same topic. The problem with The West Wing is not with the text. It's with how it's used. I, too, don't want politicians I vote for basing their job on a fictional text. That doesn't make it a different text than what it is.
Hey, I'm not dwelling on it because nothing's ever going to change. Maybe you should accept that and move on as well?
Again, very sad assertion that you're never going to change. Maybe reconsider that stance and consider why it is literally everyone here has a problem with you. It's weird being so accepting of that.
