Not sure if this is unpopular but I hated the end of the fucking world. My gf and her brother really liked it but I could not get into it at all.
The West Wing is bad as, like, actual politics. As a TV show, it’s outstanding for the seasons Sorkin was on board and then it was okay
The West Wing is one of the most destructive pieces of entertainment to come out in recent history. It poisoned an entire generation of liberals and made them completely misunderstand power in politics. In the show, a far-right Supreme Court Justice dies and the Democratic President has an opportunity to shift the Supreme Court, but ends up letting the Republicans pick someone because they all love the idea of some sort of grand debate between some extremist and their liberal Chief Justice. It was always dumb, but when you look at how the Supreme Court process has gone since 2016, it shows how foul Democratic Party worship of process and norms really is. Joe Biden might not have seen the show, but the party is filled with staffers and advisors who learned about politics from it. Just the other day I saw an interview where Sorkin said he had never heard of the 1968 DNC riots. He learned about them as he prepped for his latest project. This is a man who is almost 60 years old who had been making politically-based shows for decades.
Lolololol This is one of the fucking dumbest things I've ever read on this site. Sure, the show is unrealistic and idealist, but "one of the most destructive pieces of entertainment". Get fucked.
Watch it. Great writing and wonderful character development and stuff, but like some people said in here, the politics are definitely played up and unrealistic, but that honestly doesn't really matter.
There are so many shows where the topic of the show isn't the draw to it. It's just one element of many or a way to get people into it. The characters, narrative, writing and execution are what's important.
I actually used to consider TSN a great film. I also re watched it recently, and yeah. Does NOT hold up. I’m not sure if they write Zuckerburg as a comical loser on purpose, or they really think all the things he says are very witty. The scene where he’s letting JT character talk him into waking into a board meeting while wearing a bathrobe. To tell some people off he’s never met, and smiles back at JT like “yeah we’re so edgy” was just so bad. Then Brenda Songs character is a joke. There’s a scene where they’re writing code, and making it a drinking game. Like I’m sure that could be a thing, though there’s a whole crowd of people.....cheering. Watching. It’s so corny, and ham fisted.
I thought afterwards maybe I just don’t like Eisenberg as an actor anymore. Though no, because I also recently rewatched TS&TW. Still a good movie where he really caries his character. Such a damaged youth at the prospect of divorce, and his toxic dads masculinity.
I’ve never once read that scene that Zuckerberg was actually an edgy badass. He’s desperate. No success will ever make him immune from trying to impress the “cool kids”. That movie is not friendly to him.
I really like TSN and it doesn’t make him look good though if that movie came out now it’d be too tame considering what Facebook has done since.
All you have to do is Google "west wing liberals" to see other extensive documentation on the issue. What do you think is considerably more destructive?
Both good examples. South Park is a strange situation, though, because their helpful and positive messages are seemingly ignored or forgotten by people who cling on to their uglier views.
