I watched The Social Network for the first time since theaters. I didn’t like it then and was surprised by how much praise it got and I still don’t like it now. It takes all the bad aspects of Finches and Sorkin and almost none of their good aspects and just goes nonstop for two hours with little to no breaks or levity. And the majority of the acting/writing is horrible, specifically Timberlake. The only redeeming part of it is the music, at least they got that right.
If Sorkin has his way then the Zuckerberg character would have been a hero, so “it takes all the bad aspects of Sorkin” can’t possibly be true. The man loves nothing more than a misogynistic know-it-all
I remember in college I kept reading lists of unfairly cancelled shows and Sports Night was always close to the top. I bought the series on Amazon and made it through like 4 before I couldn’t take the cheese anymore
Sorkin created Studio 60 cuz he thought SNL lost its cutting edge satire and felt he could make it better. Then the sketches in the actual show were abysmal
Social media was a very different thing back then, but the movie really shows how the outward facade of these sites being used to build community are really leading to more isolation and social pressure. It is a shame that we haven't had the Fincher of Zodiac and The Social Network in so long.
