Rome is so bad. I have a fondness for it as a history teacher with an interest in Rome, but it is embarrassingly silly.

 

Silly? That's a critique I haven't heard before.
You don't like pullo and vorenus being the unlikely folks that tie everything together? Historical inaccuracies? The writing and acting in general?

 

It needs to be more like 300

After three and a half games, I can confirm that Zelda is slightly overrated.

I don't get the adoration that the zelda series receives either, but I haven't owned a zelda game since Links Awakening dx.

 

I'm just echoing what others already said earlier in the thread, but I think the finale of Lost is fantastic and the best episode of TV I've ever seen. No other TV show/movie has ever impacted me that much. I've probably watched the entire show 5 or 6 times all the way through and I'm always in the middle of a rewatch. I'm halfway through season 6 atm.

 

Rome is just so over the top. Violence, sexuality, all too gratuitous. Its historical inaccuracies bother, but not as much as poor production. It reminds me of what people say about Game of Thrones.

 

The ancient world was violent...the historical texts back that though.

The sex displayed was a bit much...but also not unrealistic.

Shit on the show for be being boring, or historically inaccurate, but calling it silly, is silly.

Edit: Poor production? Are you high? The show had a huge (and unprecedented) budget dedicated to maintaining authenticity, and the sets and costumes were impeccable.

Yeah...I don't agree that was poorly produced at all. It's incredibly authentic, which was the whole point. The historical inaccuracies are fine, not like any show could actually be historically accurate. But in terms of sets and costumes etc, its very authentic, and you can find tons of historians agreeing with that

Is that because you really like Dances With Wolves or really dislike Goodfellas or both? I remember thinking Wolves was fine, but I haven't seen it in like 10 years

 

I am a little less enthusiastic on GoodFellas than some (it's undoubtedly great, but I can think of at least 5 better Scorseses) and I REALLY like Dances.

 

I'm a big Kevin Costner fan and have spent a lot of time defending him. Mostly as an actor, but one of my professors my first year at film school during his lectures would, whenever the Oscars came up, say something like "John Ford won four Academy Awards... but Kevin Costner has an Academy Award so..." then he'd roll his eyes. Same with Robert Redford. Any time the Oscars came up he'd mention them, but then say "But Robert Redford has a best director Oscar, so take that for what you will". It was bizarre and endlessly annoying.

Ordinary People gets WAY too much shit, too. It's a really excellent movie. No, it wasn't better than Raging Bull and Redford should not have won director. But because of that people treat it like it's some garbage Oscar bait when it's really good.

 

Agreed. Plus Redford made Quiz Show so an Oscar is deserved, even if awarded the wrong year.

 

I love Quiz Show but saying it's better than Gump, Pulp Fiction and Shawshank is a tall order. What a killer lineup for picture that year...and then there's Four Weddings and a Funeral. :sad trombone music:

I will say Turturro in Quiz Show is one of my all-time favorite performances though.

 

I'll comfortably say it's better than Gump and Shawshank.

 

It was nice seeing Kevin giving a wonderful performance in Hidden Figures

No, the production was bad. The CGI has aged terribly, and the way battles were shot is continually worthless.

I have no idea what "Important people" agree with you; it is generally considered on a lower tier than the more universally beloved shows. That is why you are posting it in the unpopular opinions thread.
