Yeah I would have loved to see a proper tour - loved seeing them last year but desperate for a tour where they actually play the new material. There’s only one UK date in London for this support tour which doesn’t seem worth the hassle.
I really liked this album when it first came out cause of the experimentation but as other things have come out this year I find it sliding further and further down my list. It's got some really bright moments but it's got some really dark ones too. Idk man it just feels like they can't get the formula right post reunion.
I'm just having major cognitive dissonance with the band in their new era. They really do sound great, but I miss the complexity of their pre-reunion material. And I have to tune out how atrocious some of the lyrics are and the fact that they're written by men in their forties. Voyeurist is so good I can get past that element, but it's harder with this new one.
wholeheartedly agree. Makes me view him in such a different light and it’s clear he’s been through some shit
Have been listening to Lost in the Sound of Separation at least twice a day since listening to that podcast. Forgot how great of a record it is.
Chris is doing a YouTube live interview right now and he said they’re doing 3 no repeat sets on the END cruise. Bunch of stuff they haven’t played before
58 min in, he seems to insinuate a staff member (Randy?) did something that warranted firing and had a victim attached with it... Anyone else catch that?
Hed mentioned James earlier and said "a few years ago"... he'd said "recently" when referring to the staff member being fired... and I dont think James would be "staff" either.
unless prior explanations for departures from their camp are just voiced that way to cover up something more sinister (voiced by those who have left, not the band themselves), i think it might be someone else. Randy said he left after the new record didn't have the traction the band was looking for, and the band said James left due to not wanting to tour in the same way they did (although James's statement indicated otherwise). i don't think we'll know the full story here, so who knows if it's someone like Randy doing something that severe that warranted firing, but my first instinct wasn't that it was him.
I saw them this past weekend on the Papa Roach tour and they were the best of the bunch by a long shot. In fairness, Rise Against had serious technical issues that made their performance drastically worse, but I thought they sounded pretty bad even before the issues hit. Crowd didn't seem to know who they were, save for a few people in the front, but they did participate happily in the Generation No Surrender call and response. Spencer did say they really want to come back and do a proper headliner in Maine. They haven't since 2011.
recently picked up the run from dtgl through disambiguation on vinyl and no it was not a good financial decision at all but its got me running the classics a lot again and litsos in particular i feel like ages better and better each year. unbelievable record
Was jamming LITSOS tonight because it’s the quintessential Friday album for me. It’s just so cohesive. A fun thing I used to joke about when I first listened to this album was about how Aaron’s vocals don’t join us until like halfway through the second song on this. Once his part on Anyone Can Dig A Hole comes up, it’s like “oh hey Aaron, nice of you to finally join us.” That being said, their strategy on LITSOS just shows how natural and unforced their thinking was making this album. Rather than forcing Aaron’s vocals on the opening track, they just let it rip and shred through to kick off the album. I really hope we get another truly cohesive output from them in the future and I know they are still capable of it. Not every song needs everyone on it and not every song needs a verse-chorus-verse-chorus style. I’m really liking the experimentation on the tracks like Pneumonia, No Frame, and even the structure of Outsider. They shouldn’t be afraid to make an ENTIRE album in that vein while still slipping in heavier elements. Don’t need to throw it on the end of the album.
Breathing -> Dig a Hole is an elite tier opening combo, when the full production on Breathing kicks in it's like getting thrown into a hurricane
Managed to snag tickets to their “secret” Tampa show tomorrow night at my favorite 300 cap venue. Hoping for a few oldies.
I want more Locus Ultra stuff, unreleased demos. As Chris and Tim said on that IG live, release the files!!
the demo that came with the recent vinyl pressing is crazy good, insane that its like a top 3 post hiatus underoath cut and was almost just chilling in a dropbox forever
Update: quite literally the sweatiest/hottest show I’ve ever been to. Band sounded incredible though. Really good balance of old and new material.
In Regards to Myself Loss Breathing in a New Mentality The Blue Note It's Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door All the Love Is Gone Too Bright to See, Too Loud to Hear Generation No Surrender Young and Aspiring Shame Hallelujah Reinventing Your Exit A Boy Brushed Red Living in Black and White Writing on the Walls Dig it. I wouldn't mind that setlist.
Too bright in the middle is awesome. I’ve seen it twice live and it’s one of their best tracks live. Peak stuff.
