Track 3 with the vintage mid 2000s overly long title track

  5. I'll never forget the first time I heard Disambiguation and couldn't believe Spencer had such vocal pipes, but this track really sealed the deal for me. He's constantly switching up between many registers, in such an impressive way. The urgency of the instrumental made it an instant favorite as well.

I hope they bring it back live, with Aaron helping Spencer here and there. The few live videos I've seen were great but you could tell he was struggling to pull off all the parts. It must be one of their most difficult songs to perform right?

Yeah - Vacant is a really hard song to pull off live I imagine. Spencer is a beast for it but I wouldn’t blame him if he couldn’t do it live perfectly. I think Aaron helping like you mentioned would actually elevate the song.

I’m still waiting for the Disambiguation livestream they hinted at the end of the Chasing Safety livestream :(

i've always thought so but after watching some of the observatory stream it solidified my opinion that spencer is a much better vocalist than aaron.

disambiguation pretty much solidified that for me. spencer carries that record and pulls off some shit i never imagined him pulling off.

I think Aaron is a good singer of the scene, and Spencer's singing is more adaptable to other styles if that makes any sense. Like both of them as singers though. Aaron's singing on LITSOS really hit a nice peak I think, he can make some good ass chorus/bridge melodies

The long convo on “Vacant Mouth” in here is great/unexpected. Maybe my favorite of their deep cuts and probably my favorite on Disambiguation. The chorus sounds like peak Christian Lindskog from Blindside.

It's interesting hearing how much higher Spencer sings on their recent work compared to DTGL

I honestly prefer his clean vocals on DTGL heh

One of my favorite memories of seeing Underoath live was when they opened with Vacant Mouth. There was pretty much no one at the show which was unfortunate but hearing that song and like 5 others from Disambiguation was great.

Hot take but I don’t really care for Spencer’s singing. He’s talented and shines on disambiguation, his voice is unique, but I just don’t really feel strongly about how it sounds. Plus, Aaron’s voice may be very scene-y, but it cuts through the music beautifully.

my biggest problem for years is that Aaron’s vocals always seemed to be shoehorned in and felt more obligatory than a genuine part of the song, for the most part. Disambiguation felt natural with just Spencer on the vocals because to my ears that’s how it always should have been anyway. Which contributed to my endless disappointment in Erase Me, among many other reasons, because it felt like the band was taking ten steps backwards in the progression they had made thus far prior to the hiatus. This new song goes back on that and once again finds them in a place that feels organic in their progression as a band if you ignore Erase Me.

  20. I took a quick nostalgia trip and bumped some Underoath and definitely agree with a lot of the sentiments here. Honestly I liked Aaron's almost overdone "scene" vocals on older songs (Reinventing Your Exit comes to mind) and when you compare them to those live sessions they released he doesn't sound as good. Spencer on the other hand is one of my favorite screamers.

Just listened to Erase Me earlier this morning and the following has been said because it’s true:

It Has To Start Somewhere - slaps
On My Teeth - absolutely crushes
Sink With You - so fun!!!!
Hold Your Breath - chasing safety 2.0
No Frame - classic UØ literally could’ve been on Disambiguation .

One more time - I don’t get the hate. That is all.

I’d also add that the bloodlust chorus could also be pulled from any of the 3 pre-ø records. also i just really like ihateit. So boom, most of the record is great.
