I kinda hate myself for it but I love TOCS and it’s the one I enjoy listening to the most. I recognize that it’s not their best work, far from it, but it is the easiest one for me to listen to front to back and so I revisit it more frequently than the others. Disambiguation is my favorite otherwise, probably, I really like the general atmosphere of that one.
i mean my god has any other scene metalcore band even come close to writing a song as brilliantly heavy as "a divine eradication," "who will guard the guardians," or "my deteriorating incline?". and im now realizing "incline" may as well be a fucking converge song
Definitely get that. Paper Lung definitely reminds me of Deftones and for that reason it’s always been my favorite from the album.
I just spun chasing safety and there’s some incredible stuff on there, I don’t care what anyone says it rocks hard
The Almost did fine if you don’t compare albums sales to Underoath’s album sales. Can we at least agree that Aaron’s voice is one of the things that give Underoath their signature sound?
I love the lyrics on LITSOS, but I guess a lot of that is they have renewed relevance to my life right now. Spencer’s lyrics on disambiguation are terrific too though, no argument there. I love that you can get such different styles in the same discog. That groovy bridge on deteriorating incline into straight heavy is remarkable. Also yea, echoing the support for TOCS. Sounding dated doesn’t mean bad, as someone else said, bands today would kill for some of those hooks. I’d put that 4 album arc against just about any other band’s
I Got Ten Friends and a Crowbar... is easily one of my favorites by them. I remember my friend and I losing our shit when we first heard it.
sounding dated isnt bad in and of itself if that sound has held up. i dont think 04 scene metalcore has held up at all
To more critical listeners the tones and electronics may be defining features but I’d imagine a vast majority of underoath fans identify Aaron’s vocals as a defining characteristic. At the very least his voice is unique, whether it’s good or not.
That intrigues me because after TOCS I thought his singing style was much more metal than pop punk. And my point was more to his voice itself rather than the singing style.
i think spencers clean vocals got more metal than they were on tocs (i got him and aaron mixed up on the cleans for years on that album)
absolutely. got into the band late but they are another example, like UO, who improved after shaking the label they associated themselves with early on
i love that style of screaming because its so easy to hear all the words clearly, ill have to dig more into them ive only listened to a few things here and there
the thing that worries me about them headlining a tour is who the support would be. that could very easily go sideways
