That bridge with the almost siren like guitar in In Division is one of the coolest things they’ve ever done. Disambiguation also had one of my favorite song release strategies where they released each individual instrumental track for Illuminator until the full song was put together.
It was immediately my favorite on first listen. Not sure I’d still say that, but agreed it’s underrated.
Had never seen that video. Really bad ass For some reason the guitar tones reminded me of the thrice fire ep. hadn’t ever made that connection.
Got an email from Underoath's Merch Store. Freaked out for a second but they're just updating their Privacy Policy now that they're in conjunction with Artist Arena LLC, a Warner Music Group company. Steps. Forward?
The unmastered version of Define the Great Line has surfaced. Figured some of you would enjoy a more raw/unpolished side of the record while we wait for an impending LP8 announcement
So this is just the mixes? Interesting? Is this what leaked yearrrsss ago I remember it wasn’t full quality and the band was mad
Something I was thinking about that I thought was interesting that somewhat has to do with Underoath. Thrice is my favorite band, and Underoath is still one my favorite bands. Both bands “broke up” took hiatuses whatever you want to call it. Both bands are back now and are active on different levels. Thrice has had a new record and will have a new one sometime in the near future. Underoath is said to have a new one also. Both bands are actually bigger or seeming to have more success then they did when they were before taking breaks. (Thrice gained new fans from TBEITBN, got small rock radio success, toured with Rise Against/Deftones and played some of their biggest shows in a while) (Underoath has come back and played huge shows with Beartooth and Bring Me The Horizon, some of their biggest in a while) both bands have also been playing a lot more festivals(big festivals too, a lot of them are both including both bands as well) and more rock radio friendly ones with bigger bands. I guess what I am trying to say is, it’s funny how they’ve almost had the same trajectory after coming back as active bands, and also, selfishly I want them to tour again like they did after Vheissu came out for Thrice. They played in a tiny club 2 hours away and I still bum out thinking I missed that haha.
Yes Underoath have played some big shows since coming back but I’d contend that they aren’t number 2 on the Billboard charts level like when Define The Great Line came out. I think you have some interesting points but I’ll wait for the rumoured new album to fully compare to Thrice’s comeback... The show I caught on the UK leg of the Underoath Rebirth tour was played in the same venue I’d actually seen them play at years and years before. So we still kind of got the smaller venue thing. It didn’t even sell out I don’t think, which they were doing at their peak before Gillespie left. Some of your comparisons raise good points though!
That’s definitely true, when the “scene” was at its height Underoath was huge. It’s mostly probably because of how I thought of them before they got done when Daniel was the drummer. From what it sounds like though they’ve definitely gotten new younger fans who didn’t know who they were before which seems crazy for a band like them.
