Yeah BMTH is HUGE now. They've changed their style a lot in the last few years, so you could definitely hear a song by them on rock radio or something and not think it's them if you'd only heard their deathcore stuff years ago haha.
With BMTH There is a Hell is where it's at. Legitimately fantastic album. I fuck with Suicide Season and Sempiternal too, but There Is a Hell is the best. And That's the Spirit is decent, has some cool things on it.
Yeah there's no question BMTH is the bigger band. I went to the tour also largely in part to Underoath. Maybe 5 people in my area knew any of the songs, was a really weird vibe.
I heard and enjoyed "Throne" for what it's worth, but other than that my knowledge of BMTH is very limited.
Is there a list of all of Underoath's working titles for songs? Always thought it was interesting how they never referred to their songs on setlists or amongst themselves as their actual titles. For example, Viper is what they call Breathing In A New Mentality. Most people who like Underoath would enjoy BMTH's album Sempiternal, that album reeks of Define The Great Line influences.
I've heard various accusations about Oli live since his voice is kind of destroyed that they use a lot of tracks for his vocals and the keyboardist to cover parts where Oli struggles. Haven't confirmed that for myself since I don't listen to em. That said, that band is absolutely huge. I think UO can still grow. Their re-birth tour sold out the biggest room they've ever headlined in Cleveland, so I would imagine most cities got pretty good size rooms as well.
Listening to DTGL for the first time in a while...kids these days just don't make 'em how they used to. That album remains to this day uncharacteristically unique for it's genre.
Every time I hear "as the light begins to breach the booooordeeeeer" I get dangerously amped. Could not love that album more.
Great moment on that album for sure. I feel the vein on my forehead pulsing when that part hits. I just don't understand how that can come out of Spencer.
I think they'll eventually get to writing music. They just need to find the right time and place. They're just getting back in their groove so I'm fine with waiting. Pure case of quality over quantity/rushed time.
I definitely think new music will happen eventually, if hasn't quietly already taken place. They pretty much extended the album shows as much as possible at this point. They could probably buy some more time doing general live sets for a bit, but I think they would need new music at some point to do the type of tours they have done the last year and change. If they wanted to just do random festival appearances and a headlining show or two, then I think they could just embrace being a nostalgic act.
Yeah I'm pretty certain we'll hear something about music in the next year or two. I don't think they're the sort of band who would be satisfied in not pushing forward creatively - they never were when they were full time and even though they're not full at it now, I don't think they'd take much satisfaction in just touring old material over and over.
I'm going to predict that they'll secretly record an album or EP. They were talking about another UK tour when they were over here... unless they do a LITSOS tour they'll need to put out something new.
I think spencer has mentioned in interviews he's the kind of guy that's always writing stuff, so I'd be shocked if there wasn't at least plenty of lyric material lying around. I'm very curious how the rest of the guys managed to swing this much time away from whatever full time commitments they had tho. That said, if they can keep doing it I too expect new music at some point. I think they've also said they don't wanna turn into a nostalgia act, and that label is getting closer if they keep doing these shows.
I feel like between all of the members of their respected side projects and what not there's at least an album or two of material already in the works. My guess is they'll do a short tour in the states and then hit the studio. At least that's what I hope they'll do.
