i saw a post somewhere very recently that claimed Chris had said those singles wouldn’t be on the record. Perhaps things have changed but i thought we were all in agreement they would be. If they’re not, I wish it was more clear so I could start overplaying them lol
They did play Illuminator when I saw them in March and Paper Lung when I saw them in 2018 so it's nice to see Disambiguation acknowledged
Dudes have made some bonehead decisions the past two years or so but Voyeurist rips so hopefully this will be a nice natural progression
I had asked him a while back if the demo they were playing at the meet & greets earlier this year was going to see the light of day and Chris said yes. I remember it being very fast and very Spencer scream-heavy. A ripper for sure.
i was wondering about this. i thought a while ago someone said we could expect an album in january. i guess that has changed...or maybe i'm mixed up with something else
Happy to see we’re back on the “singles won’t be on the record” side of things. Love the songs but it’s gonna be way too long.
as someone who didn't enjoy Let Go and Lifeline as much as anything off of their new albums, this pleases me to hear. in light of the ensuing nonsense of the past couple years, however, i'm not sure i'm as interested as i once was. we'll see.
I love Let Go but thought Lifeline was pretty whatever. Happy to hear a new record is going to be it’s own vibe as I hate when bands include a single that’s already been out for over a year on a new record.
Not trying to read much into it, but if the singles are "different" than the direction they are going for and the other faster/heavier demo is on this album, then maybe they are going for something a little heavier then? We'll see. I like the idea of them all coming together to collab at a remote spot. Keep it cohesive.
Can't wait to hear about all of the yelling matches and squabbles that happened at the cabin in the 10-part documentary that will no doubt accompany the album. "This time, we finally got it all out of our system!"
This. Every record. "We all got in a room, smashed some beers and could actually talk... these guys are my best friends." Still big fan of the band, and always excited about what they make.
Late to the party with the Chris interview. I love the idea that they are not putting the last two singles on the next record and they are doing writing sessions locked away in a cabin. I hope they bring on a producer again. I think they are better when someone is distilling all the UO energy into a release. This era seemed important to the band but the last record and the two most recent singles did not resonate much with me.
It's not going to happen but I wish they'd go back to Matt Goldman, or another producer that make them sound... not like the recent singles and Voyeurist production wise.
Wonder if this new album got pushed to focus on TOCS shows this year and then push the new album next year.
They have gone so hard on Chasing Safety. I can't imagine literally any news surrounding that album that would excite me. Loved the Observatory show as a moment to hear that record with some modern updates and much better sound. I can't remember where but I heard they did the two single drops last year and have since gone in a new direction for the record they are finishing. Ready for something new.
literally though. i'm not a huge fan of just banking all your success on nostalgia. this was a huge problem when they got back together and just kept playing through TOCS and DTGL. like cool, but you can't do that forever.
I think they were gearing up to release the album late last year/early this year with a tour, but once the WWWY fest stuff announced, they figured it was more lucrative to cash in on a TOCS tour in the meantime and then focus on the new album next year. I totally get it from a business perspective.
