After roughly 5-6 listens I cannot seem to put this down. I fucking love the riffs, it’s super heavy in the way disambiguation was but I definitely hear a lot of the poppier elements from define the great line within it, I think this is the best they’ve ever split the two sides down the middle. Erase Me’s big problem was the heavy parts sounding more like generic heavy rock than the atmospheric post-metal that defined LITSOS and disambigustion. A lot of that deftones style influence makes it’s way back here through the low, simple but effective riffage you hear throughout. Someone said the tones are a little scooped out and djent like, which is true, but it works and I like that tone a lot when it’s utilized correctly, and I think it is here. Those super low guitars just fucking do it for me and I’m glad they’ve made a return here, especially the baritone.
Also, in completion was my favorite song for the longest time but pneumonia is rivaling it as literally one of the best closing songs on any album I’ve heard
Hoping they add Numb, and Thorn to the live setlist. That'd be 4 new songs. If they wanted a 5th I'd be down with Take a Breath because that bridge is funky fresh.
After my second listen Thorn, Numb, and Pneumonia are my favs. Agree a lot with the people who are praising I’m Pretty Sure and No Oasis as good ways to round out the record. I’m looking forward to digesting this more. Though it’s not clicking as a whole yet.
I would be personally let down if Thorn and We’re All Gonna Die isn’t added to the set list for their headlining tour that’s about to start. In reality I just want them to play Voyeurist in its entirety but they know fans wanna hear the “greatest hits” with probably nothing from Disambiguation sadly.
im pretty sure im out of luck is hitting me harder today than it was before. that moment at like 2:30 is exactly what im talking about and when that wah-pedal guitar hits is fucking dope
i think releasing Pneumonia as a single instead of Thorn was a big mistake. don't get me wrong, Pneumonia is an incredible song, but it doesn't really work as a single. Thorn as a single with a music video would have sent the hype train full speed ahead!
i like that there was a song as amazing as "thorn" waiting for me when i watched digital ghost/heard the full album
ooh I def wish there was another song or two. 10 almost always feels too short for me, even moreso here where the songs are super fast paced.
They released it Bc it coincided with an anniversary of someone’s death that the song was written about, right? I’m fine with that.
I am finally listening to the Observatory releases and good god this performance of "10 Friends and a Crowbar" is filthy
I'm always on board for more tunes from my favorite bands but I would be scared that we would've gotten a number of filler songs that would've disconnected the album flow. Thinking back to Erase Me there were points where I'd have to skip a couple songs which I don't feel like I have to do on this release. But hey, if they wanna release a couple of bonus tracks like last time, bring it on!!
I'd love to see the numbers comparing a rerelease say 6 months to a year later compared to the deluxe version coming out immediately. Seems like the major label artists are throwing as many songs out there as possible on release day to get the most streams possible. The deluxe edition age seems outdated. It worked when everyone was buying CDs because you'd have people buy the album twice, but getting those streams on opening week seems more important, at least in the major label realm.
