I'm in a never say never mindset with them. I remember when they swore they'd never play Reinventing Your Exit and Down Set Go yet both ended up becoming live staples post-reunion. Who would have bet on them dusting off When The Sun Sleeps as well?
I’ve said this before but what intrigues me is that there are so many people who presumably don’t listen to this music much anymore, have not listened to 2-4 albums worth of material, and yet dish out the money to see them hoping they’ll play heavily from the first 2 albums. I’d imagine if a lot of the first timers in the crowd were relatively new fans they wouldn’t have the nostalgia factor that makes people clamor for earlier stuff, but again, I don’t know anybody who used to listen to heavy scene music, stopped and moved on, but still goes to shows (or newly goes to shows).
Fun to see this thread bumping again. Played teeth a couple of times on the way to work and I am so excited for a new record from them. Love that the first drop was such a curveball. It’s not my favorite from them, but it has me confident this one will be reaching artistically. My favorite underoath is them getting weird.
Aaron produced this track recently (and plays on it) and I think it’s pretty good for an up and coming band! Figured I would share here:
Yeah if you watch the NWFT doc, there's scenes where Pennie is kind of guiding Taylor through the parts, though I don't think there's any footage of him behind the kit. I've always wondered how much of that was written by Pennie and suggested to Taylor, but he just goes, "Yeah, no, I think I'll play it this way."
Yeah, Penne wasn’t allowed to record drums due to a label dispute, but he still contributed ideas and drum parts, just couldn’t record.
Contracts are so weird. "Yeah you(Chris), an actual member of Coheed can't play on the album. Just write some. But this other random guy not related to the band at all.... he can record. You can watch though".
In hindsight, they probably should’ve done something like: TOCS 10 Friends In Regards highest voted song off EM (or just No Frame) highest voted song off Dis highest voted song off LITSOS Teeth highest voted song off Voy When the Sun Sleeps Writing on the Walls Still only 18 songs and would’ve guaranteed at least one song per album. Not allowed any voting for DTGL (even state the obvious “you don’t think we’re not cashing that 20 year check in two years?”).
I think this album will be better than anything post reunion. Not my favorite, but I like it. There’s this subtle anthemic radio thing they were doing on Thorn and I feel it a little in this one. I liked spencer as a lyricist when his lyrics were cryptic. “fuck you im enough” is more of the same since they got back together. Overall still psyched. Was hoping the next release would reach the heights of on my teeth and damn excuses as a ripper single and this doesn’t sound like that, but it’s also just a clip.
Not sure how I feel about this, if this is the full song. It's heavy but sounds more like a generic melodeath inspired metalcore band than Underoath to my ears? Not sure if it's due to the chugchug kinda riffing. Quality doesn't sound great either so it's certainly not the best way to experience this
Like the opening part instantly reminded me more of stuff like Miss May I, As I Lay Dying, Darkest Hour and the likes than how Underoath usually sounds like on their heavy stuff. It's a bit jarring edit: pre-Transit Blues The Devil Wears Prada as well
This isn’t the new single and it sounds like it won’t be on the new album. got an email confirmation that this is an unreleased track. likely from the scrapped batch of songs post vouyerist before they started over. it does sound way more vouyeristey than the other new track. that makes me feel better. perfectly fine as a one off unreleased track. hope the next single is a heavy song that is up there with the highest highs post reuinion.
