I've listened to it twice now, second listen made me grow on it more but I do agree that the production drags it down. Especially on the heavier parts.
I played this a few more times at the gym and I’m 100% on the hype train. I understand the backlash but I love how weird they’re getting.
This feels like the kind of track that I would have never recommended as a single. If I heard this in the middle of an album I wouldn’t have noticed - I think I’ll probably enjoy it more in the context of the album.
Went back to a couple of interviews spencer has done recently with the context of this new song and I am so hyped for what is likely to be a wild full length.
I dunno, I think like what if “driftwood” was a single and come up with “that song is a million times better than this song and wouldn’t have made me worried whatsoever”
For whatever reason when Vouyerist came out it just didn’t resonate with me. Been a die hard for many years and I only got a handful of plays in and hadn’t gone back. Just did a listen and this record is great. It’s a mood album for sure. Has some of Aaron’s best choruses. Damn Excuses, Hallelujah, Thorn, and Pneumonia are amazing. Kind of wild playing a record that’s been out a couple of years and feeling like it’s brand new. It’s a bridge album and i’m very glad they went back to working with a producer. Stoked to revisit this one and get more familiar with it. been on a deep dive since the new single dropped.
Voyeurist as a whole did not have the lasting power I had hoped it would but the great songs on it are extremely great, like Thorn
Listening more, I feel like I would like it so much more if Spencer wasn't doing cleans at all. The Aaron part is so catchy and its really well where Spencers just feels off. If they added more of the heavier parts instead of that I think I would be vibing a lot more.
i think spencer melds better as the song goes on but his first few intro verses are my least favorite part. his voice just doesn't work with melodic, poppy styles at all but the man clearly loves doing it.
Seconded, when it comes to his cleans I prefer him in full ethereal, Chino mode like in most of Disambiguation or Hallelujah's second verse
I’ve always felt like Spencer should just stick with the harsher vocals and let Aaron do cleans. Feels bad saying that, but their best songs kinda prove that for me.
Spencer's cleans are fantastic, agree that Disambiguation's style was my favorite but I also really like him on this track. This new song is quickly climbing into my favorite tracks of the year, the heavy part gets stuck in my head all the time.
