i wondered the same thing. i know as vocalists it makes sense to heavily feature Spencer and Aaron in videos, but at least get the other 3 in there every now and then.
Yeah agreed, it's tough to feel like Tim barely gets four notes. This band just has such a tough time all getting in the same direction, at least post-Aaron's return. The growth trajectory from Chading Safety > Disambiguation felt so great, but with the last two it feels like they're all over and not on the sage page. That said, I do like the song more than I expected. I prefer weird and experimental over an attempt at mass appeal so I'm down for more.
I keep going back and trying anything new they put out but every time I’m reminded they’re just not for me anymore and it bums me out.
I think the drumming on this is really cool, but the rest doesn't do a whole lot for me. Weird/off-putting video, too. I've never been big on bands just...not featuring the band.
To the folks who are wondering where the other dudes are and that tim didn’t get his moment to shine, did you see him rage on the aux pad with reckless abandon during no frame during the erase me run? or have you heard his side project carrollhood. I have no doubt dude was in the kitchen cooking hard and pushing for this type of song.
the most striking thing to me about this song and why I was confused last night when i hit play was how much this is so radically different but still has the soul of an underoath song. that is no easy feat imo. props to them for going for it
I went to their release show in Tampa and it remains one of the sickest shows I have ever been to. NEED that band to release something else.
You just know Aaron was listening to Oli sing when he was writing the chorus to this song. I don’t hate it. Probably won’t go back to it often as a single, but if it fits well in the context of the album I wouldn’t skip over it
Totally get that. Without a doubt he's a visionary and gifted writer, way beyond just being a guitarist. I think it's just that his riffs and unique style have been so influential on the genre/scene/whatever, and that is, in large part, what I love/have loved when I think about Underoath.
No doubt, I remember one of those livestreams during lockdown where they were asked about the music they were into and Tim said he only listened to hip-hop. I can imagine him living his best EDM performer life on stage during the verses lol
To compare to another band in a similar space and longevity, August Burns Red. Awesome at what they do and just saw them last year. They have refined their sound so well and yet they released a new single/or one off today and that song could have come off any record going back to Messengers. Extremely talented musicians and still a fan of their music but as a fan perspective I find it more interesting to push new ideas that Underoath is doing.
If had a lot less of the versus and more of the industrial heavy it would be way better for me. Tim wasn't in it because he didn't have shorts short enough available.
god what a weird mess, why is this not two different songs? genuinely some interesting ideas here but...it's not working for me
