ok wait, did all i need for these new songs to click was to listen through headphones? because now i'm actually starting to like them. the distortion could be dialed down a bit, and i don't think the call & response/repetitive nature of some of the lyrics works as well as it could, but somehow these are resonating with me more.

This rollout has been great. Excited to see the response to the Locus shows.

Sucks that everything for this album release has leaked one way or another haha. Going back to a year+ ago when the scrapped album was going to be released. Just a series of fumbles the whole way down the field.

I want call and response, gang vocals, all that kinda stuff to just appear less in general in music lol. It’s really hard to not sound super cheesy. just sing the song man.

yeah, like i get what they were going for with trying to use it (i.e. some sort of collective voice of resistance), but given the nature of the lyricism of their past couple albums, it just feels a bit played out and musically unnecessary.

Another thing is how painfully generic these lyrics are. Nothing personal or captivating at all and whatever works only works because of the vocal work by Spencer/Aaron.

Like what exactly is Generation No Surrender about? I hate these empty call to action songs where you’re not even clear on what the action is.

i remember when i posted the release date of survivor's guilt before it came out on the band's subreddit and i was banned because MNRK got pissed and asked the mods to ban me lol

it seems like a lot of bands are facing this problem with leaks nowadays

Survivor’s Guilt is about dealing with addiction. Watching people die or relapse while you improve. Feeling like you did something wrong.

] hahaha just kidding I made that shit up

I just watched an interview with Spencer and he confirmed that Generation No Surrender is about Taco Bell removing the Loaded Grillers off its menu and how we’re all just hamsters on a wheel anyways.

Super deep stuff - I take back everything I’ve said.

Pretty melodic song for them and a good one at that. It’s pretty clear I just need to drop any and all expectations for this album and simply surrender to the experience. That said, I think I am getting a better idea of what they’re going for now.

ive had to chop out very odd choices from all of these songs in audacity to dig them so far but for this at least it was just the weird lower pitched vocal part and thats about it so thats cool i guess

really wish they leaned into less repetitive hooks though, hard not to be left wanting a little more when spencer is mostly just saying the title

  18. It was about time Aaron had a more classic soaring chorus but I don't know how to feel about the whole song. Feels like there isn't much of a build up to the chorus. Breakdown is sick though, as well as the industrial and electronic touches. It's like a continuation of Numb in that sense

this leans a little more Erase Me/Voyeurist than anything else, but i'm not upset about it. some interesting production choices for sure.

Gonna hold off on listening but sounds like this album isn’t going to sound very cohesive

yea lol like with generation no surrender i just axed out the shitty call and response chorus. says a lot about how badly forced in it is that you can just cleanly do that without it sounding awkward

What I’ve heard I’ve not liked. Haven’t been a big fan of anything post reunion honestly, but still following because I feel like they should be able to make something decent considering their former output

By the way, this rollout’s been a disaster.
