based on their latest IG stories, it looks like they might be doing more with the Locus Ultra moniker
The social posts said a Locus EP coming and the teasers had audio that sounded awesome. Their recent run of pods have been unhinged lol.
Ripped TPATO twice one my grocery run today. Killer album I just haven’t spent enough time with. Going to try to work it into my workout jams over the next couple of weeks. It’s definitely their best since the hiatus. The production, hooky parts, trading vocals, and Chris’s parts are all really working for me.
I think the album had to grow on me. I’m all for change/pushing boundaries and UO definitely challenges fans in a positive way. That being said I just can’t deal with the lyrics on All the Love is Gone. I wonder if I’m alone in that.
Not sure if they have a video for that song but damn if they did and someone made a meme that said: “when I get in the car” with a screenshot of him saying “I lost my wallet I lost my keys” that shit would go viral immediately
Forever hoping they go back to imagery in lyrics vs. the pretty ham fisted lyrics. Overall I do think this release has a lot to offer that is not phoning it in. Also the music is so compelling I can forgive some of the lyrical whiffs. Curious where they choose to go next. Their manager leaving is a pretty massive shakeup. I’m so curious why they left the label after erase me. That was a pretty triumphant return and roll out,
I would say this was the biggest change since Voyeurist. I recently listened to "Returning Empty Handed" and the lyrics on that song compared to most of the songs on TPATO would make you think it's a completely different writer, and not for the better, IMO.
They wrote most of those songs in their 20’s so I bet they just feel like that way of writing is corny now as a lot of us do when we look back at our 20’s. But I agree, the lyrics certainly haven’t gotten better. I also feel like both Spencer and Aaron’s involvement in writing for other artists has so be a factor. Seeing what works in the pop world and trying to make it work for UO.
Lyrics on all the love is gone (and the way the verses sound tbh) were initially and still are the low part of an otherwise stellar record imo. I get lyricists generally change and simplify with age but they shouldn’t get worse beyond just getting plainer and Spencer’s low points get lower and lower lol.
This one was really good. Aaron is an interesting dude. Seems to very much mirror the person he’s speaking to. Lots of good old lore and honest reflections. Favorite bit was that he falls asleep to school of rock 4 nights a week. Very funny. Their run of pods has the new record every couple of days.
Good for them for putting themselves out there with all these pods. I swear, everytime I open Instagram, there's a snippet of one of these. Seems like they're trying to make up for the inconsistent promotion/weird rollout the album got
It does seem like an intentional pivot. It worked on me. I listened to the record twice and then took a pause for a couple months, but after hearing them talk about it I jumped back in with a whole new experience. They usually have a documentary for the album, and on the last one they did that huge pod. It definitely felt like something was missing on this rollout for me. They even did the Locus Ultra thing which was super rad, but so limited in who actually got to see it in person.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Underoath/comments/1dnx73e/new_song_preview/ this song didn't make the cut in the final album, big chances that we are getting a b-side track soon
Song is up on their subreddit. Even in a demo form, this is already one of my favorites things they've done post-hiatus. Perhaps they should open the vaults and release everything they got
Yeah Teeth is one of my favorites if not my favorite on that record. And not because all the other songs are bad. I just really love Teeth.
Teeth is probably the coolest expression of poppier and heavier elements that could have been corny but RIPS. Where are people hearing the demo??
