Definitely don't listen to this as often as I did for Voyeurist which makes me sad. I definitely still return to some of the catchier ones often.

Appreciate the hustle on the band’s end. It’s a shame I mostly hate the new record.

i was a huge underoath fan until lost in the sound of separation and came back for disambiguation but that was it. they're not even the same band to me anymore but i still have the old records.

I enjoyed Erase Me and loved Voyuerist (more so Digital Ghost) so I was super excited for the new record and goddamn did this thing let me down. I think it’s their worst record to date lol

As someone who just had his honeymoon in UK/Paris, Aaron mentioning Dishoom was wild. We went twice and it was by far our favorite thing we had lol

I live about a 20 minute walk from the Dishoom he's talking about, and I've never been.

  12. Even tough it's been a constant in his interviews, it always surprises me how brutally honest he can get about where his head's at, how he sees him and the band in today's music space. I rarely hear other musicians go there, at least in this scene.

I feel like, if it weren't for the anniversary tours, they would've stayed gone or their rebirth wouldn't have lasted more than a few years. Maybe I'm projecting or interpreting what he says in the most negative way, but that's the vibe I'm getting. It really isn't easy being in band that's considered past their prime by most. Sure, they must be doing decently with the old stuff but I mean, creatively, it must feel weird to put out new shit and the reaction is often *crickets*.

Makes me grateful they're still around, they still make music that they poured their heart into without the pressure they faced pre-breakup, and that most importantly, they're still having fun doing it all together.

That's also the sort of take I got when I was talking to him. They know they're not the biggest band in the scene or get the same hype that they did in the mid to late 00s, but they're happy being in a position where they can live off of their material, put out new stuff when they want, and focus on their other passions - in this example, Aaron mentioning nowadays he prefers helping other artists with their material and climbing the ranks.

Gonna say it every time but I do not understand the mindset of liking a band’s old stuff enough to pay $50 to come out to a show but not checking out or liking any of the new stuff over the last 10+ years. Breaks my heart every time a song starts that’s not off the first 2 records and the crowd dies.

I personally find it really frustrating when most of the crowd has zero reaction to any of the deep cuts, like literally anything from Disambiguation. I know I've probably brought that album up plenty of times as one that was never properly appreciated but I remember the response to Paper Lung when I saw them in 2018 going over like a wet noodle and the reaction to Illuminator when I saw them in 2023 wasn't much better. Like, I absolutely don't expect every concert goer to know absolutely every song from every album, but it's still disappointing. And I guess in fairness, the reaction to anything from Erase Me sans On My Teeth and No Frame has been similarly muted

i would've sold my soul to hear them play Catch Myself Catching Myself back in 2018, but they only played Paper Lung on that tour. great performance of that song though

P sure I saw them on the disambiguation tour. The crowd was small but hearing those songs with Daniel drumming was sick

Seeing them on the Illuminatour was super fucking depressing because I think maybe 20 people showed up at my date. I'm chalking a fair amount of that up to the Albany, NY concert scene sucking balls since there were so many "no Aaron, no care" people

They played the smallest venue I’ve ever seen em play in in Rochester on that tour, also just a few dozen people probably. To this day I can’t believe they didn’t sell out a bigger venue on nostalgia alone (even more remarkable that the schedulers anticipated it). As we’ve been saying, it’s not like the average attendee has any idea what’s going on in the band’s current history.

also even paper lung or illuminator don’t do it for me live anymore, those songs got their time in the sun. Need catch myself, vacant mouth, etc. heck, did the LITSOS cuts they shockingly busted out a several tours ago really get so bad a reaction that they too have since been banished from the list??

That was the problem: there wasn’t really nostalgia for them at that point. I feel like 10 years out from a record, it’s at its corniest but 20 years, it turns a corner into cool. A lot of those emo/screamo bands were doing pretty bad in the 2008-12 time
