172 - UNDEROATH: New Album, Sacrifices, Hiatus & Getting Jumped at a Show This pod with Tim and Chris rules. The Australian one with Aaron and Spencer was a little cringe in a few parts. This one doesn’t cover the new record music wise but it’s a great deep dive.
I’ve kind of been the opposite, been liking it less with subsequent listens, not sure why. Voyeurist was the exact opposite. If I had to rank: Lost in the Sound Define Disambiguation Voyeurist Safety Place After Erase Me Never got into pre-Spencer stuff.
My only current gripe with this album is that it ends so quickly. I don't remember the run time, but I'll be in the gym and it's already done and I have to go and find something else to put on. A lot of the songs that didn't hit me at first are now coming back around. This is still in the same section of Voyeurist for me: not reinventing anything, but definitely pushing forward since the reunion.
It’s just so frenetic and just long enough to not wear out it’s welcome. I used to hate on shorter albums, but the older I get, and the louder/heavier the music is, I tend to enjoy the album a lot more.
Still really have no idea how I feel about this album after having it for a few weeks and listening a dozen or so times. I feel like while I'm listening to it, I generally really enjoy it. Pretty much every song has a part or two I think is really great. I really love Devil. As has been mentioned in here many times, it's a great album to run to. That being said, pretty much every song has a part I dislike. Vultures is a big flop for me. As soon as the album is finished, I pretty much have forgotten everything I just listened to, so it doesn't really have any sticking power for me. But I do feel like I keep having the urge to go back and litsen because it all goes down very easy and is enjoyable.. It just kinda feel like auditory fast food for me. I'd like to see some of these songs live though. I think they'd translate really well.
Still listening to this constantly. Teeth and Vultures are the only songs I've taken out of my rotation. The bridges on a lot of these songs are the real highlights of the album.
Also just learned that All The Love Is Gone actually hit #33 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. That's their best single charting since Rapture 7 years ago. But surprisingly, the album didnt even make the Billboard 200.
DTGL is their best to me. It’s a masterpiece. One of the best ever in this genre. Returning Empty Handed is incredible.
At the show right now and it’s amazing to me that Spencer continues to grow as a live vocalist every single time. If Underoath could bottle their new songs live for the studio recordings, a la Digital Ghost, I think the reunion records would be held in such higher regard.
Yup, this is why I'm looking forward to the Audiotree session. Stuff like this has been a long time coming post-reunion, though I get that there aren't as many opportunities for heavy bands as there were back in the day. I remember growing up watching scene bands perform on The Daily Habit, Fearless TV/Music, late night shows at rarer occasions... Still wondering about unreleased performances from the Erase Me days, like that acoustic Paper Lung one etc.
Cant believe how into this i still am after the singles not really clicking. Really might be my favorite release of theirs.
I admittedly have not revisited this one much since it released. I do really like it, but I just haven’t had the itch. Same thing happened with the last one. My underoath die hard ship may have sailed smh.
might actually like this more than voyeurist now lol, out of luck aside which is still the benchmark for post hiatus uo songs for me
lately i've been going back and forth listening to voyeurist and tpato during workouts. i like the song writing more on voyeurist but the production feels so much thicker and better to me on tpato. the digital ghost version feels more comparable in terms of mixing and is definitely my preference.
