Underoath - The Place After This One (March 28, 2025) Album • Page 28

  1. I can see them put out something special if they take the best bits of this one, Voyeurist, Erase Me and their old stuff of course... while dialing back their worst post-hiatus tendencies or executing them better.

I didn't really listen to any of the singles as I'm not a massive Underoath fan but I quite liked Voyeurist and I like this too. If Voyeurist was a 4/5, this is a 3.5.

I think Underoath has just become a band I pretty universally trust in terms of output. I'm very comfortable saying they're probably not going to make a record I hold in as high regard as some of their pre-reunion work (though Voyeurist admittedly got pretty close), but I'm equally comfortable saying they're probably not going to make a record where I'm just like "well, this definitely isn't for me."

I can usually count on them to have at least a couple of moments per record that make me roll my eyes a little bit or wish it was just slightly tweaked, but it's typically never enough to ruin a whole song, and that's good.

Is it Kylo Ren who said "Don't kill the part of you that's cringe, kill the part of you that cringes" or something

This is super hit and miss on first listen for me. A lot of stuff I really liked but also a good amount of stuff that I wasn't feeling at all. I'll see how it grows on me.

yea this is it for me - there are plenty of lame lyrics here that are at least buried behind an insane scream or a cool melody, but to say those words in that almost tough guy, bro-y cadence, and to isolate it so prominently just reminds of the corniest awful bands I’ve seen open shows lol

I think the only part of the record I really don’t like though is the callback verses in all the love is gone, surprised to see that song appear as a fav so much.

was adding my copy from Bandcamp to my external hard drive and came across the MP4 i purchased of Digital Ghost. damn, that was so cool. wish they'd do something similar for this album (not counting the Locus Ultra livestream).

  12. I dunno, I think I just really like Underoath. I was worried this wasn’t going to grab me like Voyeurist, but holy shit two listens in and I adore it. Hard for me to pin down favorite tracks but Devil and Shame really stand out. My favorite moment on the album might be the second verse of Teeth tho. Overall, this rules.

  13. 3rd Listen in and Spinning In Place really stands out. The instrumentals—especially the drums—really stand out during the second chorus.

I really like this. Probably won't end up passing Voyeurist for me but still solid and enjoyable front to back.I agree with lots of comments on here that all 4 writing members seem to balance their own shine here which makes for really interesting songs. Ya there's some corny lyrical moments but it isn't taking away from my enjoyment.

Outsider is a sweet closer. Part of me wishes they went absolutely ballistic at the end of it, but I also understand the restraint to do something different than their last few closers.

You son of a bitch! Now all I hear when I listen to shame is “I’m scared of dying, no gun required.”

    Still a great song.

Yeah I dig this. Aaron's drum parts are some his most creative and almost has this dance feel throughout

    I do not exist.

Not had chance to listen yet but I’m so excited that a number of people are saying song X is my favourite post-reunion BUT song X is different across the thread. I know there are lukewarm comments too but considering I loved Voyeurist I feel confident I’m going to enjoy this.

Did anybody else get a promo card thing in the mail with a discount code for the new album? Says it's for loyal fans, but I don't know what the hell I signed up for that they sent it. lol

some of the flourishes of the drums and production definitely feel like theyre channeling those genres. i think some other current very popular metalcore bands are doing that kind of stuff right now. i think its fun and popular right now but im not sure how its gonna age.
