Yeah. There are cool parts in all of the new songs, and the production has really grown on me as I've heard more singles. Didn’t the band admit that they didnt really nail their vision for erase me? This seems to me to be a closer/better version of that idea. Still a lot to critique for me. And I'm glad a lot of people are digging it. They're just not the band that are pushing things forward in huge ways and nailing everything they try anymore. For me. I think I'll enjoy this album a lot more than the last few, though.
Relistened to Voyeurist in full potentially for the first time since it's release and it's aged shockingly well. While the lyrical value is subpar, the moody and futuristic production makes up for it in spades. I only wish they had rounded out the tracklist with one or two more songs (and those singles that came out later do not count). Spencer really is one of the best vocalists in the game when he's going for it.
Maybe I’m the only one but I really dig the lyrical direction the band took post hiatus. The lyrics on Voyeurist specifically really resonated with me, especially some of the more chill songs like No Oasis
I'm really looking forward to this album. I like every song released so far. As someone who fanboys about Erase Me....these new songs lean harder into the Erase Me era but are done better. So yeah...I'm pretty stoked about this direction.
I think they could do something cool on their opener slot on the Rise Against / Papa Roach Tour. Start the show with the backdrop of Locus Ultra. Masks and all. Start by playing 1-2 unreleased tracks. Then, rip masks off, tear into In Regards to My Self or Breathing in a New Mentality. Back drop changes to UNDEROATH. Sounds cool to me at least!
I do hope the Locus Ultra stuff doesn’t die off when the album comes out. Whether it be some crazy weird output they end up doing or just touring small rooms under that name, it could be really cool. They always seem to push the boundary with marketing and vinyl packaging
I’ve had All The Love Is Gone on repeat. so good. I would love this on cassette, but I’m considering CD. Nice to see they put effort into the packaging
The only thing mentioned was the Locus Ultra Instagram post that said “EP Soon” but definitely not holding my breath. Much more excited for POTATO.
I think I’ve played these singles more than the two previous albums prerelease singles. Gotta dial it back to not overplay them but I’m actually stoked for this record.
Interesting interview. Two things: 1. It seems like Grant was more involved in the writing process here, unlike the last two records where it sounds like he (and James) were sidelined. 2. This bit I’ve quoted has made me laugh as this literally said this about Voyeurist - we’re writing a new album, we’ll keep recording, we’ll have something out within a year… and the new one is only just arriving!
if you zoom in on the album credits on the vinyl packaging mockups on their webstore, Grant has co-writing credits on every song on the album, but all guitar and bass parts were recorded by Tim. Grant's only direct contribution to the recordings is a gang vocals credit on GNS.
So glad they were finally nice to grant. The man has been putting in years of work into this band. Deserves some shine
Wait, Grant hasn't recorded on the last few albums? I just watched old studio doc of Lost and he was playing on those.... I wonder when it stopped/changed. Erase Me?
Between the songs released so far and the videos I've seen from the Locus Ultra sets, I'm excited for this album
none of the singles have really done it for me buuuut I'm seeing them next month with Alexisonfire (!!!) so I will give the album an honest shot
The chorus to ATLIG has been stuck in my head for a week. Has to be the catchiest hook they've had in a long time.
