also to go back to underoath for a second, feels like outsider is a pretty different closer for them. even when theyve ended albums on softer cuts like some will seek forgiveness and i gave up they all built to clearer moments of payoff, but outsider is much more restrained. interesting
Two new variants in the Brooklynvegan shop. Slightly cheaper both in list price and shipping. 300 each pressed. UNDEROATH ‘THE PLACE AFTER THIS ONE’ LP (Limited Edition – Only 300 Made each, Various Color Vinyl)
I remember seeing that mentioned in a thread before and it’s spot on! Fran sounds like an absolute mad man and his vocals on tracks like Recounts and Recollections still give me goosebumps. Another aspect of Wolf that I love are the lyrics. None of this generic call to action shit - instead super reflective and to the point. It’s great stuff with a lot of verses that still stay stuck in my head today.
New single is decent if you don’t read the lyrics. How did this take 8 people to write?? Anyways; this will be the first Underoath record I don’t preorder. I don’t hate these new tracks but I don’t love them either. Big bummer as I’m still a big fan of Voyeurist and I was so excited to see where they go next but this… feels a bit underwhelming.
It reminded me more of Desolate Earth than the other closers in that sense, at least in its live form
yesss this so much man, frans lyrics are phenomenal on that album and mean the world to me. shit like "if poverty builds character and spoils bleed arrogance, id rather consort with the low and the decadent" is just so far above my general expectations for this scene
Haha, I thought the same thing. And perhaps an overuse of "idea"? Don't they have an English major they could consult on promotional material . (being facetious, I don't actually care!)
Is this a part-time Holding a Wolf by the Ears thread? That album is top tier for me. From Deth Kult to Pioneers it is full blast, total mayhem. An all-timer of an album. “I’m a flickering bulb that keeps blaming the filament”
you get me lfg. at the very least it can be the homework for any drifting eyes that are unaware. one of my favorite records ever
It's Tim talking, and someone doing a weird cut and paste of bad editing on their socials. From the PR: Discussing the new album, guitarist Tim McTague says “The Place After This One is a multi-faceted idea. The fact that we grew up so sheltered and spiritual, and are trying to reconcile how we grew up against what we see now in the new age. Underoath, albeit intact and the same, is simultaneously so different. Our band has gone through a lot of chaos. I think there’s something beautiful about the idea of not just abandoning everything when things get weird. Whether it be your faith, or your band, or your marriage, or your relationships. The idea that there is a place after this one, even if it’s with the same people or it’s with the same God, or it’s with the same town. Things compound when it’s good, and you just cut out the things that are bad.” Full thing: Underoath Announce New Album
Funnily enough my favorite part of the new songs is Aaron’s hook in the chorus of Teeth. That’s super catchy.
I’m all in on this album. I love the eclectic patterns and the D&B elements. Honestly I’m just glad they are trying to experiment with their sound further.
They are def taking a swing. Just wish I liked it more. Some combination of lyrics, disjointed verse/chorus, and lack of heaviness just makes it meh for me. Each song has a moment, that I really like, usually as a bridge to final chorus. Feels like a tease for fans of the heavier, weirder UO. Voyeurist felt like a step in the right direction, this feels like a step towards erase me. As always though, absolutely awesome art direction.
