We reach for the longest shadow

I remember my friend showing me The Last after I starting like Underoath from TOCS and the leaked DTGL demos. Song blew my mind.

Unrelated but this is easily my favorite album title and the cover is great too. Hard to rank it but the aesthetics around this record are exciting.

These songs are so damn catchy. Went to listen to the uploaded livestream and something is wrong with the audio. I’m cool waiting for the proper recorded release. I don’t know where this will land in the discography but I feel the energy Spencer has talked about in interviews saying this is the best he’s felt recording something special since define.

  6. Had the chorus stuck in my head since it leaked, even though the verses still have to grow on me. Still find that breakdown sick.

Looking at the singles, they're really saving the best for the album tracks. Since there's a month and a half left, I figure one last one is coming in March. Would be down for Devil, Vultures, Shame or Cannibal. The Mastodon feature is definitely going to draw curious eyes to the band.

still reminds me a lot of

Pour up (drank), head shot (drank)
Sit down (drank), stand up (drank)
Pass out (drank), wake up (drank)
    Faded (drank), faded (drank)

Preordered the R/Y/B Deluxe. Holding myself to way less vinyl this year but not loving that price, honestly…

Been listening to Erase Me a ton this week and it’s grown on me. That said, the chorus to All the Love goes. Hard to imagine the flow of this record but I’m stoked for it.

Something just doesn't really work for me about the new songs. It might be the mix and how disparate some of the verse / choruses' sound and that they don't flow and work together (at least that's my first impression of a lot of the new songs). I also just generally hate modern production in the genre now and how tight and compressed and digital everything sounds.

I don't hate it, I don't think they've 'sold out' etc etc. I think they probably are creating the art that they want to create, but something just hasn't clicked for me yet.

album description from their Instagram. might be the worst run-on sentence i've ever seen (and i should know because i use them all the time, haha).

"The Place After This One is a multi-faceted idea of the fact that there's something beautiful about the idea of not just abandoning everything when things get hard, whether it be your faith, your band, your marriage, or your relationships, but the idea that there is a place after this one even if it's with the same people or it's with the same God, or it's with the same town, and things compound interest when it's good and you just cut out the things that are bad."

Teeth is honestly my favorite of the releases so far lol. I'm excited for the album overall, as I've really loved the last few records, but the lyrics on this new one kinda kill it for me. Still good amounts of heavy and catchy so we shall see

damn that’s so rad. May have to scoop this one. This is my favorite album rollout from them.

After hearing the single it’s almost like they’re using Spencer’s screaming as a hook. Feels different than the way the scene has evolved where it’s screaming overlaying poppy parts. Genuinely surprised and impressed at how fresh of a take it is.

gonna take this moment to do an obligatory holding the wolf by the ears shoutout because that album absolutely nails making the heavy bits the hooks

also hot damn that version of the artwork looks sick

I think I said it in another thread on here but the thing I love about that album is that it genuinely sounds like Francis is losing his fucking mind when he screams. Like, it doesn't ever feel like "this part is screamed because that's what the music calls for", it legit sounds like he's going insane

spot on, frans voice is so distinct and makes him sound unhinged. love how despite all that hes still pretty smart about deploying it all too, be it letting it out in small doses to slice through the hook of delusions of grandeur or just fully breaking from the leash and tearing shit up on underpass where he sounds absolutely maniacal. caught them live last month and hearing him howl through all the old ben songs was insane, dude still has it
