Having just finished my first listen, I'm happy to report that this is the case. I 1000000000000000000000000% understand why people don't like it, this isn't a "WOW HOW CAN YOU GUYS DISLIKE THIS ALBUM YOU'RE CRAZY". Totally valid to not like this album. But I dunno, I fuck with it. Weirdly enough I think the slower tracks like Wake Up, ihateit, and I Gave Up are some of the highlights for me! And yea, this album feels like a grower. Not for every song, but enough of them. Outside of the songs I mentioned, I still really like On My Teeth and Rapture grew on me IMMENSELY. In Motion also attracted me quite a bit. No Frame hasn't grabbed me QUITE yet but that feels like one that will on future listens.
I definitely don't consider TOCS their best and agree it doesn't have the greatest production, but I still think it is a better record than Erase Me and is more than just nostalgic. The writing on that album was catchy and more unique than this.
Idk, a lot of Erase Me feels like I've heard it before. It's not bad, I'm happy the band is happy and don't blame them for wanting to change things up. I do think it will grow on me more, but I just hoped it to be an album Id love right away.
Just like the AP.net Emery threads of old Let's get down to tacks and brass, what don't you like about this album?
I'm on the opposite side of this. This album does almost nothing for me, but I can totally get why people might be digging it. Only a few moments actually make me want to turn it off, the vast majority just goes by without leaving much of an impression.
I think there are a few lyrical lines that are a bit cringy but I also think that he really believes what he is singing and that comes across well. Idk I really like every song haha, I even like wake me up now. GOD ERASE ME I DONT DESERVE THE LIFE YOU GIVE Is probably my favorite part of the album
Respectfully disagree. It’s catchy with some good songs but this record is more ambitious in my opinion. If anything- lyrically it’s dense. There were several times throughout the record that I literally though “Damn Spencer..” cause what he was saying was so heavy. I’ve never said that about any TOCS songs because they’re very by the numbers lyric wise. It was the music that sold the record for me back in the day but now I don’t hold it anywhere as high as I used to.
Just got through a second listen, sorry guys I've completely turned sour on this now. Honestly might be the worst album I've heard this year, and even last year. Super depressing. It just lost everything about them, ugh. Nah just playing, Happy April Fools everyone. Definitely grew already on a second listen.
crazy how enjoyable everything is after ihateit. Holy. Crap. I am eagerly awaiting my like 7 copies of this album I ordered. I also really love the way Rapture kicks in right after the opener ends... it makes me so happy! The song itself isn't my favorite but that makes me like it more! The end of In Motion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love love love it. If they dropped Wake Me / Bloodlust and replaced them with two more songs that rocked as much as the back half, I think this album would have been even stronger. Wake Me is one I might warm up to, but I just think Bloodlust is a swing and a miss. Ihateit is kinda whatever too, but that chorus is so catchy dumb, lol.
This is how I feel. Wake Me is already one I have ended up liking a lot, but I think Bloodlust might just be a skip. The post-chorus riff is pretty sweet, but that chorus is just blehhh. The rest is absolutely top notch.
fuck i wish i checked on it before work i could have listened all day. GONNA TRY NOW, BE BACK IN 5 LISTENS.
I know this at least won't be the worst thing I've heard this year because I listened to that Fever 333 EP
