So are people not digging this because it’s not metal enough? Is it too catchy and Chasing Safety ish? If so, this is for me. Haha. I haven’t listened to it yet, but I wasn’t too big on either of the singles.
About halfway through, I have mixed feelings. I really like It Has to Start Somewhere and On My Teeth. Rapture is somehow weaker in context than by itself. I expected to like Wake Me based on some of the comments here, but that’s my least favorite track so far.
Everyone was talking it up like it was this moody, atmospheric, intense brooding track and that chorus is just soooo bad
I don’t mind this direction at all, I just don’t think most of the songs are very good. Outside of Ihateit, there’s nothing here I really dislike, but it’s all just kinda there.
Yeah, this isn't close to sound like TOCS. More closer to the changes other metal core bands made a few years ago. Not knocking it because it worked for a few other them. I see the BMTH comparisons especially since Underoath almost recorded with Jordan and Oli. BMTH's progression felt more natural because you could hear it from album to album. That's the Spirit isn't their best effort, but it still has a few songs I enjoy listening to from time to time. I get the time away and they are no longer the same individuals. I feel like I would like this more if there was an album in between this and Disambiguation. I'm sure I'll grow to like it more than I do now, but it's never going to be a mainstay in my rotation for them. There's elements that I do really like with Chris's parts which are the highlight for me especially in I Gave Up. On My Teeth, In Motion, and I Gave Up are probably favorites at the moment.
I understand people who will straight up hate this record. It's definitely not for everyone and it's not for any fans expecting a return to the original sound. However, I feel like everyone should be able to dig No Frame. That song could have easily fit on Disambiguation too.
Yeah, this album is not as good as TOCS and has some really boring, generic choruses. There are some solid verses, though. Overall, a little underwhelmed after my initial listen. Not a big fan of Spencer's vocals on it, and a little disappointed to say that On My Teeth is probably the best on the album. I'm gonna give it another listen or two to see how it grows on me. Sometimes jamming out in my car is the best place to listen.
In terms of putting out less heavy tracks, I kinda wish we got an album full of songs akin to Paper Lung
TOCS is a total nostalgic record... and in my opinion- that's all it is. The writing, production, lyrics, vocals, etc. is overall better on Erase Me. It's not their best record but it's definitely better TOCS.
alright yea "Bloodlust is real" is a weak ass chorus but at the same time I don't really mind the song?
