I thought this would be better... I meant I didn't think it would live up to their old stuff, but I definitely didn't expect it to be this bad.
Sink With You ruins easily the most interesting song musically on the album so far with horrible melodies. This is really terrible.
After one listen, "It Has To Start Somewhere", "Bloodlust" and "In Motion" were the standouts for me. I think I will enjoy this album, though it's a very different band than the Underoath I fell in love with 14 years ago.
Was gonna hold off on saying anything until I finished, but Sink With You coming back at the end made me actually do a laughing spit take. Felt like a bad horror movie ending where the killer gives you one last cheap, unnecessary jump scare when they should clearly already be dead
After a first listen, no real urge to go back and listen to it. Not a fan of most of the vocals. But, that could change because I'll definitely revisit in an attempt to see if there's more I like. On My Teeth ended up being one of the better songs.
I don't do reviews anymore. (but I wouldn't want to disparage them in a formal review anyway, that's no fun and doesn't help anybody)
Went through it again on my way up to New York and yea I really enjoy it, it’s a shame it’s not connecting with people
I was going to wait until Friday to listen, but the reactions in this thread are gonna force me to listen tonight it seems
Some people will love it, others will hate it. Just don't expect it to sound like any of their previos work. Personally, I love it, but that's my opinion. I get what they were trying to do, and I think they pulled it off.
I have posted before how I just do not like the bulk of their previous work, but I did like some of TOCS. It has sentimental value, but I didn't like their heavy stuff- so the last few albums really have not been for me. The album rules for me. Loving the mood and the dynamics. Going to be jamming this all summer. EDIT: Wake Me is a pump up jam if I have ever heard one.
Sink With You is great, too. Jason was right about it being a good gym album. Now I just gotta go to the gym.
I love everything from UO since TOCS, and I'm really digging this album. I hope they gain a lot of new fans from this release
It’s definitely much more “mainstream” than I would have hoped for but I still enjoy it. Songs like “Hold Your Breath”, “Ihateit”, “No Frame”, and “Sink With You” are really great. This is definitely (and has more overall substance) than Bring Me The Horizon’s “That’s The Spirit”. That record just sucks, for the most part, and this is ambitious as hell in comparison.
I definitely feel this comparison. "that's the spirit," has some songs I enjoy though. I think this tries to take the same approach BMTH did, but pulls it off better.
