Potential hot take I guess but I’ve never felt like Underoath has been a particularly lyrical band... they always capture the mood that they’re going for though and I feel like they did that here, it’s just a different mood than on their previous albums.
there's little to nothing here for fans of the old work.. a couple of breakdowns and the vocals are obviously Spencer and Aaron.. other than that this is a completely different band. Should bring in a lot of new fans to replace the old ones that they lose tho.
yea there's nothing poetic here. but the stuff he's singing about is definitely really relatable.. again on a pop album the lyrics don't need to be super deep its more about connecting with people which I think this album will, just maybe not people who liked them in the past.
I've mostly listened to metalcore.. but yea I'm no expert in metal at all...in fact I would say that I really don't know much about the grenre TBH.. I love Norma Jean and The Chariot. But it sort of stops there. And obviously Underoath is a top 10 band all time for me.
Sink With You is a pretty solid song. I really like the verses and bridge in Ihateit, but very generic chorus. I definitely can see why people dislike the choruses on this album. I guess I'm weird for liking Wake Me though, lol. Again, pretty uninteresting choruses in that one though. It's weird how much better the verses are in this album. Overall, pretty generic sound so far. My girlfriend thinks it feels like a more generic version of BMTH's old albums. Hoping this back half is better.
Yeah, I mean, I don't understand how people can make out every lyric in a metalcore song without reading along with them, anyways. I've listened to TOCS and DTGL quite a lot but definitely do not know all the lyrics to the vast majority of their songs. It was always the emotion and sound behind them that I loved.
I'm hoping this is an At The Drive In situation where I enjoyed the comeback album even if most fans didn't
It worked for the two Underoath albums I mentioned and I’m assuming for the other people here who are still Underoath fans and enjoy their albums after being 50/50 with them from the start. We’re not bringing up random albums that are not relevant to an Underoath thread.
I’ll probably download it later this evening because I’m impatient and don’t want to wait almost a week for the Apple Music release.
