I agree. Usually albums that I initially think are just alright are the ones I think could be growers. If I initially think an album is bad, then I'm likely not going to return to it.
Halfway through the record and a bit bored. The mix is nice and it is cool hearing Chris have a larger role to play. I'd say the synth/programming work is my favourite part of the record so far.
I hated the latest Fireworks and Paramore records for the first 5 or so listens, now they're some of my favourite albums of all time. It does happen when expectations are the polar opposite of what a record turns out to be.
It's obviously different for different people. I'm talking about me. If I hate an album on first listen I'll never go back. Hate for me is when I don't like a single part of it. If I think it's alright or has potential I'll keep listening and that's what could become growers for me. I don't see the merit in listening to albums I don't like multiple times.
I don't care enough to spend that much time on albums anymore. There's so much out there and so many other things I'd rather do than listen to music all day so I only really check out full albums these days if I already like the band or I really like the singles and then I'll only revisit it if I enjoy it enough.
Fair enough - I'm weird in that regard because when I was trying to get into rap/hip hop, I listened to records I hated over and over until I started to understand the genre. So I give even most records I hate multiple listens just to make sure I'm not missing out. My FOMO is bad, haha. Same, it's just funny how much I flip-flopped on those two records specifically. I mean, I really didn't like some songs on them, and now I love those songs.
I’ll definitely admit that’s happened to me as well. I don’t think that’s *inherently* the case with people who get stuff early though. Like for this album, I’ve had it for a couple weeks now, admittedly the first few listens the hype of getting it early definitely played a part. However I’ve listened to it enough now where I think I’ve formed a reasonable opinion on it... I don’t like it quite as much as the first few listens, but still stand by my general comments and think it’s solid. I guess what I’m trying to say is I get what you were saying, but I also think it can come across almost a little presumptuous if you’re saying the ONLY way someone can like a certain album is because of hype/bias (which I know now isn’t what you meant).
Nah yeah i know why you'd react like that. It's cool. My post probably came off more abrasive than I wanted it too. I just have seen too many pre release hype posts to care about them these days. I'd rather just comment on what I've heard, you know.
Glad people are enjoying this, I'm just finding it pretty boring and forgettable. Will listen more in hopes it grows since I'm finding it okay but oh first listen I'm pretty disappointed
this album definitely will be divisive. its super poppy, hook after hook. again the the breakdown on ihateit is insanely awesome..
