One time Aaron bet me a million dollars and I asked him to shake on it. Good thing he didn't.. because that man would've owed me a couple swimming pools full of pennies.
Another good workout with this album today. I dunno, I’m drawn to it in a weird way given this is definitely not the kinda music I listen to om a regular basis. The back half of the album is very strong and it’s ... fun.
TOCS and DTGL will always hold special places in my heart due to the time that they were released but LITSOS is definitely UO at their finest.
"No Frame" is one of my favorite tracks on here. To me it's a great example of something they wouldn't have tried on previous albums that feels genuinely fresh, and that they pull off completely.
The previous three Underoath albums are among my favorite metal albums, and so far I think I can say that this won't top any of them for me. However, I think I'm likely to end up placing it above They're Only Chasing Safety. To me, this is them returning to a largely more accessible sound while proving they haven't lost a step as songwriters, while also incorporating a lot of new ideas and elements that show their maturation as artists since that album. I think people that end up saying "this isn't Underoath", regardless of their opinion of the quality of the music, are underselling just how big a part of their legacy TOCS is. It's still a huge part of what most people think of when Underoath is brought up, and it's not surprising to me that they still had another "mainstream record" in them.
I agree with the first paragraph. And maybe I’m in the minority here, but ever since DTGL and the three albums that followed, I can’t even listen to TOCS anymore. I loved that record in high school, but still feel like with the last three records alone, they really honed in on a certain sonic style that separates them from other bands in the genre.
TOCS is still really fun, obviously the 3 that came after were more "mature" or whatever. It's still good for what it is, and to me, it's the best time capsule of what was going on in the music scene at that time.
I really like both music videos a lot and like that they both have the same color theme. I wonder if they shot both videos at once in order to release them so close together.
Fascinating to hear the TOCS comparisons, as the two songs I've heard so far sound so much different than that. They both maintain the tighter musicianship and darker vibe of newer underoath that I feel really sets them apart from that album. Are there any tracks that more closely resemble TOCS era underoath?
Always love the dynamic between the heavier and more melodic songs on there. That's what really set it apart for me
Unpopular opinion, I know, but I really wish LITSOS gave itself room to breathe throughout the album more. The first 8 songs really blend together for me as a constant noise assault and the songs never really set themselves apart form each other. I wish the whole album felt the way the last 3 songs do. For me, those 3 songs really feel separate from the rest of the album and I love them WAY more
I actually really like that they flow into each other like that! They do a really good job transitioning between songs on that album.
It's not the flowing into each other per say, I love when albums do that seamlessly from track to track, but it's that all the songs really don't separate themselves from each other musically and I get burnt out halfway through the stretch
