    This is fire.

I remember way back in the AP.net days you made a similar post about how there's no reason to specify a statement with "Well I just think x" because that's besides the point, that if you're not willing to engage then why express a position to begin with and that was really important to me at the time.

Yeah, I like the sound of the record. I think the drums in particular have a more unique sound to them, as opposed to the very flat sound a lot of metal and hardcore albums have. Into everything about this record. Glad this is my entrance point.

LISTEN TWO: I liked it more this time. Not my favorite song but I think the chorus is pretty catchy. Also love Aaron’s vocals in the bridge

The post chorus or whatever is pretty chromatic which I think is cool and different than a lot of “radio rock” out there.

This to me sounds like he's saying sleepwave songs are fair game to be underoath songs and that is definitely reflected in the singles. I guess fans of sleepwave are gonna be stoked on it

    How'd you get that?

He's saying that he had song ideas and the other guys would add to it , to make it something they all liked.

  11. "Christianity Ruined My Life": Underoath's Spencer Chamberlain Talks Moving On From The Past
Aaron and I started writing some new things before the tour and we weren’t sure if it was going to be a new project or if it was going to be a Sleepwave record with Aaron on drums, which was something that we talked about before we got started. We were even thinking of starting a whole new band with just the two of us, we didn’t know but we just wanted to keep writing straight after our first tour back. So in the meantime, Tim and Chris started writing together over in Tampa and I was writing my own stuff which I wasn’t sure was going to be on the new Sleepwave record or just as a part of a solo project, but we ended up getting together and writing with all four of us when we got to actually start making the record. Out of all the thirty-something songs that we all wrote, we ended up recording thirteen, which were then cut to the eleven that are on Erase Me.

    That full interview is good.

"In the past we were overthinking what underoath is"

I imagine a lot of sleepwave songs were songs Spencer wrote that didn't "fit" underoath. Seems pretty obvious he's saying they weren't worried with what "fits" underoath anymore. Hence, songs he normally wouldn't use for the band can now be used for the band. Seems really logical

Seems to me that they are pretty aware that long time fans may not love the album, but they wanted to make a record that reflected where they were at musically without their back catalogue restricting them. Can’t blame them for that, whether or not it ends up being my thing or not.

just a shame that where they're at musically goes back on what made me love this bands last album. they can do whatever they want and thats cool but im not feeling the direction

Interesting that they recorded a couple extra songs that didn't make the album. In the past they talked about never having b-sides and just recording what was gonna make the album!

Feel like DD played a bigger role in writing Disambiguation than maybe anybody realized. I remember ETID said something like he wrote most of C++ on Low Teens which really surprised them, can't find the source rn though

im pretty sure he just wrote drum parts for disambiguation, i was watching interviews recently with him from that era and thats the impression i got

i gotta wonder if someone else in the band is proficient at drums then because some of the stuff he plays on the album is complex enough that you would almost have to build riffs around the drums and not vice versa

he said they did give him free reign to do his own thing and not try to copy aarons playing so who knows

I'm not expecting to like this new album more than Disambiguation (or their other ones) but....Disambiguation was 8 years ago. If this was like, 2-3 years after then maybe I would be expecting more of that yea. But so much can happen in 8 years of a person's life.

  24. Of course there are "fans" telling the members of a band that the music they make isn't that band. Of course that's where we're at in 2018. It's like the olden days when Picasso painted "La Vie" and everyone said, you know what, that's not a Picasso and scribbled mean comments under it where it hung.
