The programming is pretty cool, really liked the bridge a lot. Overall though I didn’t love this, that chorus melody is pretty bad. This band has done cool enough things in the past to keep me on board for the record though.
Preface: objectively, you are right. It does cheapen the element which Underoath's signature sound has become. Just my personal thoughts: we shouldn't hold them to that bar anymore. The quality standard UO has maintained for themselves, in their respective genre niche, sets a near-unfair precedent for any new material, or deviation from that sound. Given that just a few years ago, it seemed nigh-definitive we wouldn't receive anything new from them ever again, I'm just happy to enjoy whatever material the brand releases. Whether this album consists of songs that individually showcase more of Chris's synths than Grant's bass, or Aaron's drumming over Spencer's vocals, or if we do get that perfect collective effort (probably not gonna happen), we're lucky to have anything. I'm a very simple man to please currently, haha. edit: grammar
I only listened out of my phone speaker, but my first impressions were pretty positive. I like the chorus. I like that Aaron doesn't show up too much, and when he does, he doesn't sound horrible. "stadium ballad" Underoath does not get me hyped at all, but I'll reserve judgement. I definitely don't love this enough to jump on a pre order right away or anything, but I'm still really anticipating this.
wow i've really felt my hype for this drop since hearing the song. lol I have friends that LOVE this and some friends saying it sounds like linkin park someone texted me CRAWWLLINNNN INN MY SKIINN and said "this is a cover right?" thats an extreme but.. it isn't great. it was the first thing to come to my mind as well
So you’re not as hyped anymore because your friend compared it to Linkin Park? Didn’t you say you thought it sounded like Linkin Park?
saying from last night to hearing the song to now. I don't care what my friend said, but yea I also heard linkin park as well. I generally wasn't loving it right away, I do think the halftime feel of the last chorus saves it a bit tho.
After a few more listens with good headphones on (instead of shitty MacBook speakers); I dig this!! Now I’m stoked for Erase Me
I didn’t hear the guitars till I played the song on my iPhone with good headphones. Maybe that will work for you if you have been listening to it on a desktop?
First listen: I like it. Was kinda hoping for a new crazy chorus with Aaron or something, but i'll take it no matter. Spencer still brings it. CANNOT WAIT to hear more.
I just realized we won't be able to play this around the todders, due to f-bombage...so that is kind of stub to the ol' pinkie toe.
I think the verses sound great, not a huge fan of spencer’s sing/shouting in the prechorus/chorus, dig Aaron’s part a lot. Didn’t quite meet my expectations but still a big fan. Excitement remains high.
sounds pretty cool. Enough to have me anticipating a first listen. The cussing and parental advisory sticker kind of makes it look like they're trying too hard to dismiss the "christian metalcore" label though.
