there's a difference between writing and recording. the video looked like they were actively recording.
Idk maybe I’m just weird but it feels a little more clean and rigid than DTGL. There’s nothing wrong with that, but my tastes lean a little more in the other direction. I also can’t really articulate why, but Aaron has always felt kinda out of place to me on that album in a weird way.
I still absolutely adore LITSOS, and TOCS will always be my baby even if it's behind the other three as I've listened to them over the years
They’re Only Chasing Safety is the perfect record for the sound there were going for there. I may return to it less often than their others but it’s always a fun listen. I’m Content With Losing is one of my favorite Underoath songs.
I agree with the more atmosphere on LITSOS, which is a reason I love it. But I think the more melodic and atmospheric moments on that record are balanced by the band's most chaotic moments period. "Breathing In a New Mentality," the beginning of "The Only Survivor," and the verses of "Desperate Times" come to mind. The extremes at play in LITSOS make it all the more memorable to me. Even though I love DTGL more and think Disambiguation may (technically) be more mature.
Also, whoever trashed "The Created Void" has created a void in their own heart by doing so. That song is gorgeous.
there is not a single moment on LITSOS that reaches the extreme heaviness of over half of disambiguation
@unbornwhiskey hit the nail on the head with the "colorful" descriptor, even right down to the album art.
litsos and Ø are my favourites. just depends on what I'm listening to at the time to be honest. I wish Ø would go back onto spotify here. I rarely go back to DTGL or anything before it.
So I just listened to both and I definitely agree Disambiguation is heavier as a whole. Adding to this is that the production is fuller and it makes the onslaught more immersive. I also think "My Deteriorating Incline" may be the heaviest song in their discography. That said, the record also sounds so crisp and melodic throughout, even in the brutal moments. And the tempo is often slower. LITSOS is a lot dirtier between the (many) calm and melodic moments and the heaviest moments on that record, while not as immersive, are faster and more chaotic. Thrashier perhaps. It's like LITSOS is the hysteria leading up to the apocalypse and Disambiguation is the despondency following it (I've always thought of UO's music in "end of the world" terms cause it's always given me that vibe).
Haven’t seen much live for “Who Will Guard The Guardians” BUILT BY MACHINES One other thing I’ve noticed after going back and listening to their discography, is they seem to make a point to end nearly each track on not only a high note, but most of the time the best part of the song.
So good. I've underestimated so much of Disambiguation for so long and I'm really happy I went back and listened tonight.
