Spencer is seriously underrated in the metal scene. Imo he’s up there with Chino, Dustin, and the like
i was thinking earlier about how spencer has a pretty distinct scream in each record; pretty unique, and the latest may be the best
I guess that depends on how you define the 'metal scene' but Deftones are very much a part of the 'metal community' and have been for decades now. Chino has done guest vocals for a number of metal acts like Norma Jean, Sevendust, White Chapel, Lamb of God, and the band has toured with numerous metal bands.
Thrice/Deftones=Alt Metal Not saying they’re similar to bands like Pallbearer or Thou, but certainly would be considered metal.
they’re alt rock. there isn’t that much difference really between deftones and queens of the stone age and thrice they’d all get played on octane or some shit
Deftones are certainly closer to metal than they are to a lot of alt rock bands that get radio play, to be fair...
yea Thrice was at most post hardcore which is pretty distinct from the metal scene, it would be more apt to say they were punk than metal. Which isn't a bad thing. Deftones would count though imo
Returning Empty Handed on that fall 2007 tour (w/ ETID, Poison the Well and Maylene) was the most facemelting set opener ever
I consider Silverstein the prototypical example of post hardcore actually. I mean that in the best way.
So is chasing safety post hardcore and the rest after is considered metal core? Bc to be honest I always put underoath in post hardcore land except for disambiguation
Yea this is what I’d most agree with. At release I considered DTGL post hardcore too but I didn’t realize metalcore was a thing.
Yeah from TOCS to Disambiguation was pretty much a 4 album evolution from straight up post hardcore to atmospheric, melodic metalcore, with DTGL and LITSOS having elements of both.
Read on Vinyl Collective that someone got an advance on the new album and reported it sounds like Sleepwave. I'll be sad if true, but it is just a rumor.
As long as it's a heavy, screaming version of that sound with some Underoathy variation and they keep up the quality of the new song, I would not be terribly opposed to this. I would like to see them not just make Broken Compass 2 however (even though I do like Sleepwave) That said, On My Teeth is great so withholding any judgement until i hear the whole thing myself.
