This is pretty much exactly where I’m at too. That hook is way too poppy and prominent in the song imo.
I think it’s pretty sick honestly lol. I don’t know if I totally love the chorus, but it’s not bad and the rest is so cool, I can tell someone in this band likes NIN. Hearing an f-bomb in an Underoath song was a... weird experience tho lol.
I'm yet to hear the song. Honestly the leak thread was the first time I heard they were making new music. When they got back together I was hoping it was just for shows. I don't know.
Some thoughts: Drumming was nuts. People are saying the chorus is too poppy; I don't understand. I don't find the chorus/hook to be catchy. Hearing Underoath drop an F bomb was weird.
It’s growing on me. Honestly I didn’t initially become a fan of this band because they were the heaviest, it’s because of the way they combined heaviness with great atmosphere/melodic sensibility. And this song does bring that, despite some reservations.
i don't get what people are saying about this chorus being "too poppy", this is nothing compared to some of their songs i've heard i wish they went more all out with the industrial feel tbh
Spencer sounds absolutely amazing on that track. If a pre-order is announced today I’m throwing all my money at it.
Yeah, i’m not sure what the lyrics are about. Someone stabbing them in their back? That makes their life a lie? I don’t get it.
Spencer’s no longer Christian, correct? I feel like I remember reading somewhere that that was the case for a majority of the band at this point. Anyway, if I had to guess I’d say the song is addressing that in some capacity. Probably wrong, but the “everything you believe, your life is a lie, get over it” lyric strongly gave me that impression.
That’s what I originally thought as well but only 1 other member was hinted at being no longer Christian along with Spencer while Chris, Tim, and Grant actually go to the same church (from what I remember on the BadChristian popcast), and we know Aaron is still Christian. I don’t think lyrics would wrap around that. It sounds like it’s about someone who betrayed whoever wrote the lyrics (Spencer or Aaron).
