So they’re still getting promotion for the album all these months later. “Rapture” was playing over the hallway speakers at the movie theater (AMC).
Haven't heard this album in a sweet minute. I liked it for the most part, but I just legitimately forget it came out.
Love the song, but the video is kinda boring. Was hoping for some sweet band performance, esp when the bridge kicks in.
You know what? I'm listening to it again and I actually like Rapture more now. I think I burnt myself out on it when it first came out and now that it's been a while it's better than Wake Me.
As much as I like it, it probably still so for me as well. An underoath album should be a lock for a top 5 record for me, instead this thing is outside my top 10 somewhere. I would expect to be obsessed with a record they made, but that didn’t happen. I respect what they went for, and think it’s a well produced album but it’s not something I’m going to constantly want to gravitate towards like their past work. I think there are hints of greatness on here, specifically the opener and no frame. If they could zero on those sounds more and stay away from songs like wake me, they could put out a great album in this style still.
The gap in quality between O Disambiguation and this one is huge. I spent the first few weeks overliking (for a lack of a better word) the album because well, that's one of my favorite bands ever coming back for real and putting out their first actual body of work in almost a decade, but the novelty rapidly wore off. I actually mistook Ihateit for Wake Me lol, it's the latter that I dislike. Glad they're getting some coin and an increased budget for this music video though.
This album was suuuuper disappointing for me. Their last few albums were fucking titanic. They are immersive and powerful and this is really weak in comparison. Streamlining their songwriting into pop song structures was a terrible move for them imo—their greatest moments came when they pushed the envelope further away from anything predictable, treading into darker and more avant-garde territories, and were unafraid to unsettle listeners while simultaneously proving they can still write a catchy hook. Fuck, I miss this band’s good stuff. Might listen to LITSOS or disambiguation today.
I completely agree. I also find it really silly how focused Aaron and Spencer seem to be on making sure everyone knows their previous religious convictions have changed or vanished entirely. Maybe they were worried some people would automatically discount this release if they assumed it had Christian undertones, or perhaps they were tired of interviewers assuming they were (more) devout and posing their questions as such. I just wish they'd spent some of that energy on making a better album. They're far from the first people who've fallen into and out love with their faith, so instead of making the waves they seem to have been seeking with that proclamation, they'll be remembered for following up some truly incredible albums with something truly subpar.
Everything about this album says I shouldn't like it, Disambiguation is my 2nd favorite album from them and when a heavier band goes poppy by such a degree it usually doesn't bode too well, but I just really really do.
I listened to this album for a few weeks but haven’t come back to it. My go to album is still LITSOS. I listen to When The Sun Sleeps pretty regularly as well.
Without comparing it to other material, I really just like most of the songs on Erase Me on their own.
