I am way more into Thrice, but yeah I agree that Erase Me is more out there and creative than the last Thrice album, which is just straight foreward rock, amazing rock, but still.
Thrice does it better for sure, but I wouldn't mind some more Alchemy level experimentation from them.
I was actually more talking about the two recent tracks from Thrice than their last album they put out, but I find it funny that people don't think Erase Me is a pretty straight forward radio rock album. That was like everyone's main complaint when it first came out.
Ohhhhh, yeah I think Only Us and The Grey sound so different from eachother that I can see that POV. Earse Me has a lot of experimental stuff on it still, it's just more radio friendly than their other efforts, but it's still out there for the typical radio crowd I think, esp with some of the song structures like I Gave Up, Sink With You and No Frame.
If Erase Me and Thrice's TBEITBN are by the numbers rock, they both do it a lot better than the majority of veteran post grunge and alt rock bands who have been doing that sound for many years.
I could see this making my top 5 for sure. I wouldn't put it any higher yet though. Alice In Chains, Thrice, and Mae all have very promising releases coming out before the year is over and the songs that they have put out from them are all fantastic. TEN is also putting out a new one this fall and I have not yet completely ruled out a new Baroness album before 2019. This could be a very very stacked second half of the year.

oh man. My favorite parts: -Aaron's preverse/verse part on "It Has To Start Somewhere" _ The opening and verses of "On My Teeth" - the last couple minutes of "Sink With You" - All of "Hold Your Breath" - Most of "No Frame"
My favorite parts are all the bridges. Damn can they write amazing bridges. The bridges to ihateit, In Motion, Hold Your Breath and Bloodlust are all the best parts of those songs. So good!
Agree with all the above but some additional under appreciated nuggets: -bridge in IHTSS. Simple but I love the little guitar lick front and center -the way Aaron says “I know there’s no escape” in rapture -bridge in wake me. Love Spencer’s “I wish that I could be like you” -the way the guitar stabs follow spencers “these events are already in motion” -all of loneliness
Also, this band is riyl “August burns red, underoath, the devil wears Prada’s older stuff.” Don’t wholly agree but not bad. Hear Rising Metalcore Act Roseview Channel Underoath on New Song "Graveyard"
