Maybe what I said before was a little harsh. I guess if this is what the band was going for then good on them for making the record they wanted to make, not what we expected them to make. It really just didn't stick with me I suppose, aside from the 4 songs I listed.
I knew Ø Disambiguation, one of my favorite albums of all time at this point, would be hard to top, and I tried to lower my expectations, but after the first two weeks, I stopped listening to this one. No Frame is a top 5 UO song, and I still return to this one, In Motion, Hold Your Breath, On My Teeth, and It Has To Start Somewhere. The rest is forgettable. Usually, I would listen to an Underoath album over and over again and notice something new each listen, but the return to more straightforward (predictable?) song structures makes it too repetitive. Spencer's vocals don't always mesh well with poppy choruses, and at times I wish Aaron was doing them. At least Chris is firing on cylinders, and the industrial vibes from the previous two albums are still there. Unpopular opinion: I would still rather listen to this one than to They're Only Chasing Safety.
Its still a great record imo. I played the shit out of it for the first month or so and leading up to the No Fix tour. I've definitely cooled off on it and its been a while since I've jammed to the whole thing. Doesn't help that theres so much more music thats come out this year that its become overshadowed by more recent releases. Still some great tracks on here for my workout playlist too.
I don’t listen to this album much anymore. There are some songs I really like, but I haven’t been interested to listen front to back in a while.
Also jammed this hard for a couple weeks and now have no desire to come back to it. A first for any UO record for me since TCOT.
If you had to make 6 song EP from this album. What would it be? Mine is It has to start On my teeth Hold your breath No frame In motion I gave up I haven’t listened to the target tracks
Listened to this today. And all I could think on rapture and bloodlust was how much it sounded like Cove from in search of solid ground
Mine would probably be the same except I might switch no frame and I gave up with bloodlust and loneliness. Highly recommend you track that one down bc its one of the heaviest songs and has one of their best choruses.
I really like Wake Up lol, for me it's a more catchier version of Rapture. If anything, I think they are just too close together on the album and should be spaced apart more.
I think it’s whatever, personally, but more than anything- I think Bloodlust just flows in terms of On My Teeth ending and that song starting.
I don’t like Wakes chorus but I think it’s a fine song, I really really like the bridge. Putting it farther from rapture would help both songs but I do wish the bonus tracks replaced em.
thats a cool poster.. think im out for the show tho. The Early November show seems like a higher priority for me at this point
