Each time I've seen Underoath, I felt like I was prepared for them to come on stage. Yet every time they blast into that first song, they just blow the whole crowd away. They make a 5,000 sq ft venue seem like an arena sized show based on their energy. Holy crap. They haven't lost a beat at all. Highlight was seeing that damn Bloodlust bridge live. Such an epic moment. I also didn't know how sentimental that song was for Spencer as it showcases a dark past when he was dealing with depression and suicidal thoughts. He gave a speech about it before they performed.

Obviously they killed it on all their older songs and I was surprised to see how well the new songs transitioned into a live setting. On My Teeth's blistering opening, No Frame's epic drop, Raptures progression, It Has To Start Somewhere fits in as if it were off DTGL. They played Paper Lung which was interesting. I would have like a different Disambig song, but I really can't complain because they all sounded so cohesive.

I had VIP so I was able to meet the band and talk to them all again. I asked Aaron about a follow-up to "Badlands" and he said it's in the plan, but way down the line. They are focusing on UO 100% this year which made me happy. I spoke with Chris about VR and Architecture (I'm an architect) which is always cool because we are always tweeting each other things about it. Tim and I talked a bit about the music instagram that I run and the whole process of the new album (based off hearing his podcasts about it). James doesn't have any social media so it was tough fielding questions for him, but his favorite new song is No Frame. Grant was really fun to talk to because I brought a "CAPS in 5 over TBL" sign. I'm a Capitals fan and we play Tampa Bay next round. He found it funny and made sure to sign it appropriately with his own revisions. We talked hockey for a while. Lastly I talked with Spencer about the new record and how mind-blowing it was leading up to the release. He also had some interesting things to say about Tooth and Nail and how they had to buy out that contract. He's super happy with Fearless and the support they've gotten from them. I asked if that meant future music releases and before I could finish the question he said "oh yeah, of course."

Killer show. I'm so happy these guys are back for good.

  2. I just want them to repress DTGL and LITSOS

saw them in Knoxville, and it was spectacular. Im ready for them to hit the bigger cities though. Need to see them at a venue that actually has good sound & crowd.

Original DTGL pressing is my most prized record for sure

Should have swapped Lonliness for ihateit

I thought that for a while too, but imo loneliness doesn’t bring anything new to the band and I think that’s why they made that decision. It’s a fun bonus track tho

Should have swapped it for Wake Me. I’m okay with Ihateit at this point, but Wake Me is such a stinker

I think both bonuses should have been on the album. Likely swaps for me would have been Wake Me and Rapture.

if the bonus were swapped in for wake me and rapture, the response to this album is dramatically different. especially if loneliness came in right after it has to start somewhere.

I really don't think so. OMT is the heaviest song on there even with the bonus tracks. It's a pretty soft album compared to their other stuff. Old fans were going to be mad no matter what.

oh i agree, but i do think it would've been less harsh, i didn't mean to apply it would've automatically been a net positive reaction. OMT would still be the heaviest but rapture/wake me were by far the biggest difference/softest/radio rock-y so i think any other song softens the blow considerably and maybe doesn't push away as many people who heard rapture and didn't give it a second thought.

I totally get why longtime fans of Underoath don't like Wake Me. I am a longtime fan myself but for some reason I really dig that one. I am fully aware it could've been like, a Five Finger Death Punch song, but I still like it.

    I do not exist.

I'd like Wake Me, Rapture and Bloodlust a lot more if Spencer's singing on them didn't grate me so much.

Even so, I love this album and find it to be an enjoyable listen. I feel like I have to caveat that every time I critique it. It's just a fun record to listen to.

Because why not. If I had ordered/chosen the tracks it would probably looked like this.

    It Has To Start Somewhere
    On My Teeth
    Sink With You
    Rapture
    Loneliness
I Hate It (the stylization kills me)
    Wake Me
    Hold Your Breath
    No Frame
    In Motion

This album not ending on the “THERE IS NO FIX” is kinda criminal tbh

It’s a song I’ve heard. It doesn’t do much for me at all. Especially following In Motion.

In Motion is just okay to me, I’m more surprised that seems to be a favorite track
