I get that this album is a lot softer than previous albums but really? A comparison to boy bands and Puddle of Mudd? This is ridiculous lol.

totally cool that we disagree here... but yea this album is Spencer's break up record with drugs so yea its probably literal.

  3. Strange conclusion to draw.

i mean... they only argue with people that @ them... it seems personal when you do that. it's fine not to like it, but i've said this a million times.. no need to @ the artist, or post on their fb.. so disrespectful.. especially since so many people say their early albums "saved their life" show them some respect. if you don't like what they did, thats perfectly fine but they obviously feel like they put everything they had in this record so yea they are gonna defend themselves when approached personally about it. And they are fine with people not liking it but when they are tagged in posts basically calling it garbage they are going to feel disrespected..

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Years on this site and I never get tired of how you come SO close to contributing to conversations without actually doing it.

I don't see many artists across discliplines spending their days immediately after releasing their art arguing with randoms on the internet and retweeting praise in hopes of validation. If I'm confident in the work I'm producing, I don't argue with the consumers who don't like it because I'm aware it doesn't change anything aside from throwing bad optics on my work. These guys have been in the industry too long to not know that.

Completely agree with this. It's shitty for people to be doing it and the band shouldn't stoop to that level.

Also, sorry for the spam, everyone. I'm just catching up with this thread from last week.

I bet most of those people have never created art before. If people don't connect with your art thats completely cool and thats fine. Anyone who has knows you everything you have into art, and to have someone say to you directly its garbage is just flat out wrong. and ill argue all day about that on here.

  8. My contribution is that you drew an illogical conclusion.

Must not follow many people on Twitter. Pretty much my entire timeline most days.

I think that's probably demonstrably false. Take every actor in a major studio release, platinum selling artist, AAA game developer, and you'd see that the vast majority of them doing press tours talking about their work, not arguing with randos on twitter.

Edit: Which is why it's such a huge story when artists (take gamedevs for example) come out and argue about stuff, because it isn't professional or 'normal'. If it was an everyday occurrence, we wouldn't be talking about it.

I see that side of it.. but my comment was referring to the people making the comments directly to the artists and calling their album garbage. I'm sure there are plenty of great artists who usually just ignore these sorts of things, but I'm not gonna blame the band for taking it personally.

ihateit is so good to me, I think I said it earlier in the thread but the end of the bridge with "I DON'T DESERVE THE LIFE YOU GIVE" into the final chorus is super well done in my eyes. Actually the whole bridge is really good.....man I just really really like ihateit. The chorus lyrics are simple sure but I don't mind that.

I love that they're calling people out on twitter. If you're asshole enough to @ a member of a band (that I'm assuming has at one point contributed positively to your life) for the sole purpose of shitting on them, then you shouldn't be surprised/hurt/think it's petty when they respond back. This isn't just someone saying they don't like them album, that's fine. People need to know the artist at the other end of the convo is a person, too.

I don’t need to be a chef to think food is garbage, I don’t need to make art to call art garbage

That said it’s weird that people @ the band and it’s kinda funny that the band respond to their tweets

Lol we’re really going with the “you aren’t a musician so you don’t understand” argument huh

I’ll do some research on music theory and then be well versed to say once again that this album isn’t very good

But that wasn't the point of the post. It's fine to not like something. Just don't be terrible about it and @ a band to tell them their album is garbage.

  19. Yeah I don't like this album much at all but I'll echo the thought that @ing band members on twitter is just a bad look.

  20. While I don’t necessarily agree with teebs’ point (or at least, my understanding of it), I genuinely don’t think he was trying to make the argument that you’re not allowed to criticize art if you’re not not an artist

Lol I didn’t even use the word music

My point is if you have created art than you probably have had someone tell you it’s garbage to you directly and you know how bad it feels me. So you are probably less likely to do that to someone else.

I don’t care if this is the first piece of music you’ve ever heard and you want to say it’s bad..
