Kevin has never liked cursing in music and has been pretty vocal about it. Takes him out of the song. I think he’s the only one that’s really bugged, but I had a feeling he would be.
I don’t think it’s either Christianity or Atheism and I myself consider myself a Christian while disliking things about religion itself and the way it’s treated, presented, and delivered to people, but the lyrics (your life is a lie. Get over it) and blurb don’t seem to be in the black and white. It feels as if Spencer is saying religion is wrong and that’s the truth.
On another note this track rips, I'm not the biggest fan of the mixing as of now, but I'll wait until after. Was always a fan of them working with Goldmam, so not sure of the change. And also why is it shocking that they cursed and are heading down this general direction in terms of philosophy and beliefs? Spencer cursed in sleepwave songs and the themes were similar and Aaron has been talking like this in interviews since 2015/16.
It's funny how different the attitude toward cursing has become in Christian circles in just the last five years. Heck, JesusFreakHideout (probably the most prominent Christian review site I know of) gave Norma Jean's Polar Similar three glowing reviews and pretty much breezed by the F-bomb in "1,000,000 Watts". Swearing is pretty par for the course at this point. And yes, the irony of using "heck" in this post isn't lost on me.
I caved and just bought it, I’m irritated about it but I don’t want it to bug me later. So now I’ll have the 7” set and this deluxe. Wasn’t interested in the merch. The wife is gonna give me crap about $90 more on vinyl haha
I don’t care whatever you think about it. I’ve articulated my thoughts on it all here many times. Call me weird, I’ll be okay.
I agree with you 100% it’s just that we don’t know where the band currently stands with their faith but do know they intend to express it with this release. We don’t have the full picture so it’s understandable that the portion of the fanbase who related to the themes of struggle of acceptance faith are feeling tentative when they’ve announced in press release materials that they want to shed themselves of these old positions.
ok i read the lyrics myself its probably about religion but i think its a blanket statement damning all religion ever just his personal experience with it which is completely valid
Oh wow I've totally been off the grid for the past few days and I come back to a NEW FUCKIN UNDEROATH ALBUM. Song is great, I wasn't 100% sure about the chorus at first but I like it now. But fuck man, it really happened. They really did make new music.
