Speaking of Mastodon and runner's high, the run of Roots Remain >Word to the Wise > Ancient Kingdom is my go to to close out runs. It gets me so pumped.
So I added in the bonus tracks in place of Rapture and Wake and I'm so much happier with the album. Haha. This way I actually like every song. Still different, but this is how I will be enjoying this album from now on.
Bloodlust isn't that bad. Verses aren't good, but the chorus is cool, and it features more Aaron than most songs, so I'm cool with that. I really think my main issue with this album is that I do not like Spencer singing unless he's belting. When he's reigning it in I do not like how it sounds at all. EDIT: also, I don't think, "Wow, that's really good." On any song between the opener Hold Your Breath. It's just... there. EDIT 2: I've said it before, but the ending of No Frame is probably my favorite moment of the album. More of THAT kind of singing Spencer.
I still like this album a lot, but the more I listen to it the more I think much of this album sounds like Underoath putting their own spin on other bands. No Frame sounds like Massive Attack The chorus of In Motion sounds like...Sum 41 maybe? I Gave Up sounds like Minutes to Midnight-era Linkin Park
So I'm averaging about 2 listens a day. Bought the album from Target for bonus tracks. Wow the album takes on a whole new life when blasting it in the car. In terms of replay-ability for me, this takes the cake on the Underoath discography, however, I would not say it's my top UO album, but it's close.
after digesting this for a bit...its just okay. i think wake me is among the worst songs they've ever written tho
I’m actively frustrated that the two Target bonus tracks didn’t make the album’s proper release - holy shit they are so good - replace rapture and wake me with loneliness and another life and you easily bump up this record a full number score
