Not a comparison I expected to see in here...lol. As a big dc Talk fan, I'm not sure I quite agree? Though when I listen for it, I guess I can kinda hear it. Now I gotta throw on Supernatural.
I’m digging this a ton. Are the bonus tracks exclusive to a specific retailer or are they on all of the CDs?
I’m liking this album more and more with each listen. Watching the documentary has certainly made me appreciate the songs I was indifferent to on my first listen. I’m glad they made the album they wanted to make.
Nice. Looks like I’ll be picking this up later. I don’t really buy physical anymore, but between the bonus tracks and Brandon Rike’s artwork, I think this will be an exception.
Pre-chorus piano to "Another Life," sounds exactly like the piano in "...As a Result Of Signals Being Crossed," by Fear Before the March of Flames off of The Always Open Mouth (great record btw).
Both of the bonus tracks sound like co-writes as well, but Loneliness totally works! Wish that had replaced either Rapture or In Motion on this, more so the former. Reeeeally hate Another Life though, glad that one didn’t make the cut hah. Definitely agreed with everyone here about the replay value of this record. I still think it’s pretty spotty overall but I’m happy to eat my hat and say I’ve come back to this more than I originally thought I would’ve.
Finally got around to listening to this. To be honest I don't have super strong opinions. I definitely don't hate it. On the other hand nothing really grabbed me by the throat except for I Gave Up. I had this sudden realization listening to this album that these are going to be the first underoath songs that I actually know the names to lol.
Tons of random thoughts on the album.. Got a chance to catch the secret show in Chicago yesterday. Really cool of them to do and see them jam out a few songs in an intimate venue. The band sounds super tight and the new songs sound great live. Digging these bonus tracks from the Target edition - pretty easy way to get me to buy a cd in 2018. I’m not typically a rearrange the track listing type guy but wondering where in the album you would put the two bonus tracks. The end doesn’t make sense since I Gave Up is a perfect way to end the album. I feel like Loneliness would easily make sense early in the album. Maybe flip Rapture and On My Teeth and put Loneliness between the two. Another Life I’m unsure though.. Maybe before ihateit? Also, My final opinion. New Underoath album, not direction I was expecting and would love an classic UO-sounding record at some point. That said, if this is the album/sound that keeps them excited about Underoath and together then I welcome any album that sounds like this. The more time I spend with the album the more I like it and the Get Over It doc has made me appreciate the songs I didn’t love immediately. Love that they didn’t play it safe, tried to expand on ideas that they would traditionally throw out and love the production of this album. I also got a chance to blast it in the car straight through for the first time which also made me appreciate the album.
I read a couple pages and it seemed mixed at best (not that pages of praise would influence my opinion)
Oh I don't think it should influence your opinion, just saying you shouldn't be surprised that there are people who love it. I'm not one who is blown away by it, I have my gripes with it, but I do find myself going back to it quite a bit
I'm having a hard time figuring out where I would place this in an album rank. I definitely like it a lot more than TOCS and less than LITSOS. I still dunno how it compares to the others for me though.
