I'm willing to bet the co-writing credits are there because some of this stuff was written with Sleepwave in mind. Spencer having co-writers for Sleepwave makes a ton of sense.
Bums me out that there’s a very direct correlation between songs that were co-written by hired guns and songs that I actively hate. To be clear, I’m not generally against co-writes, and I’m also not really talking about Squire
Johnny Lee Andrews' songwriting creds explain a lot in the context of those tracks and lead me to hope he ends up nowhere near another UO track in the future.
Yeah I'm not big on the co writes except for I Gave Up. Very good song. I don't mind In Motion though because it reminds me of Mayday parade
Holy shit, this surprise performance of dangerous business from Aaron and Spencer with Beartooth is incredible. About 4:45 in, starting with the Blue Note
Where and when can we hear loneliness? Was it offered as part of the digital download for the 7” box set?
The extra hate for Wake Me really does surprise me. It's definitely not the worst on the album imo. Bloodlust is easily the worst. Sink With You does remind me of Linkin Park at times. But I mean that in a good way. I think my favorites are It Has To Start Somewhere, No Frame, I Give Up, Hold Your Breath (minus that super generic chorus), Ihateit, and On My Teeth.
So funny. I think Bloodlust is one of the best (dat bridge though). My favorite is Hold Your Breath. I wonder how many of the new songs they'll play on tour? On My Teeth and Rapture are shoo-ins. Wondering what else would translate well in a live setting.
I feel like ihateit easily has the most generic chorus besides wake me. Haha. I love bloodlust. especially the verses and the bridge.
Yeah, I get that with the ihateit chorus, but the rest of it is so good that I don't mind. The bridge is fucking awesome. I think it's a way better chorus than just singing "BLOODLUST IS REEAAL" repeatedly, it just pulls me out of the song.
They'll play bloodlust (I'm pretty sure). Chris was doing a Q&A on twitter and someone asked him what was the hardest song to learn to play live, and he responded with something along the lines of "Bloodlust took a million attempts"
I just don't get why they chose to work with john feldmann. He really isnt a very good writer or producer tbh.
I normally would agree with you but In Motion might be my fav on the record so I think it worked here.
I’m not a huge fan of his either but it’s no secret that the bands he work with tend to find a lot of success so from that perspective that’s probably why they did it.
Yeah I haven't heard the song yet so I'm just assuming based on his past work which I rarely ever like haha
a fridmann-produced underoath record would probably be the last thing i ever heard before my head exploded
p unbothered by the co-writers tbh. feldmann's got bars. johnny lee andrews is kinda the modern rock equivalent of benny blanco so imo he's a total abomination but i hate neither "rapture" nor "wake me." i'm generally always extremely positive about producer co-writes and also the matt squire co-writes are fucking brutal and awesome, can't complain
