I must be on my tenth listen of the Iglooghost album. Initially found it very impressive but perhaps too claustrophobic for a sunny Friday. But I've reached for it all weekend. There's a stronger sense of the tracks as songs this time but at no expense of the intricate details of the world-building, and he hits that senselessly attractive sweet spot of being simultaneously light and inescapably punishing. On a micro and a macro scale he's nailed it. Also the best album cover of 2024 so far.
I love Radiohead's Idioteque but know little about electronic/IDM other than the stuff my friend who's a DJ/underground music snob shows me where should I start? other things I like: squarepusher, early brian eno, portishead. but nothing as much as "Idioteque"
you'd maybe enjoy Boards of Canada and other ambient-tinged stuff based on what you've called out. pretty tough pointing in any direction though given how massive "electronic/IDM" is as a genre (moreso a catch-all than an actual sonic description). I wouldn't limit myself though. maybe look out for lists online of "best gateway to IDM albums" or something like that to figure out what you like and then you can narrow it down to subgenres to explore deeper.
Boards of Canada and Clark are great choices. I’d also take a look at Aphex Twin for something classic and Machinedrum for a more modern producer
Also shared in the ambient thread opiated, oceanic dub-techno with rippling bass that’ll send shivers down your spine. riyl Deepchord, Rhythm and Sound, Pole, maybe the new Skee Mask
