Ok so I loveeee the new DJDS tracks. Really great progression from Stand Up and Speak (one of my favorites from 2015) Also the new Machine Girl album is absolutely nuts. Love it I have these artists on my radar from looking through the last couple of pages: - AAL - DJ Seinfeld - Bicep - Ciel - DJ Sabrina the Teenage DJ - Octa Octa - Tzusing Let me know of any other must listens from the last few years!
yeah, that's me! welcome to the thread! some of the stuff can get pretty weird/lo-fi and it can be really hard to keep up with as most of these artists release 12" EPs on a pretty steady basis as opposed to the regular album format. I listen to a lot of upbeat house and disco and some jazzier stuff but we talk about everything from rough techno to ambient to hip hop inflected club music, basically anything that doesn't fit in with mainstream electronic and dance music. You may not like everything, but if you end up connecting with some of what you're checking out I'd be more than happy to throw some artist recommendations your way! A good variety of (somewhat) accessible albums to start with (maybe?): Bicep - S/T Caribou - Our Love DJ Seinfeld - Time Spent Away From U Folamour - Umami/Shakkei Four Tet - New Energy George Fitzgerald - All That Must Be Jacques Greene - Feel Infinite Jamie XX - In Colour Kornel Kovacs - The Bells Laurence Guy - Saw You for the First Time Leon Vynehall - Rojus (Designed To Dance) Marquis Hawkes - Social Housing Octo Octa - Where Are We Going? That's an admittedly very random assortment and you might have heard one or two in there already, but I tried to just touch on a few different sounds to increase the odds of you enjoying something in there. Hope this helps!
Guys, I miraculously got a ticket to Four Tet live next week. I credit lyte.com for all of my emotions rn
AHHHHH so excited for you! I thankfully got to see him DJ but I would love to see a live set someday.
@sawhney[rusted]2 I definitely back the Marquis Hawkes rec. Joel introduced me to hm late last year and his stuff is so good. I actually prefer most of his singles to his LP, so take that how you will.
singles are almost always where the magic happens, I just try not to overload people with 'em if they're getting into the genre as it can be a little daunting! also, because I have way too much time on my hands I've wanted to go back and pick some of my favorite EPs of the year so far. will probably dump em all in here at some point.
@sawhney[rusted]2 i dont want to overload you on recs since you alredy got a bunch of great ones, but if i can recommend one thing id go with youandewan's there is no right time. it was rec'd to me here in this thread (by joel obviously) and it has honestly become one of my favorite albums ever. i owe it to the album to at least recommend it once. also listen to lone
Blessed. I’m trying to get a ticket for the Monday show since I’ll still be in Brooklyn but doesn’t seem likely
Laurel Halo - Dust and Arca - Arca were my two favorite electronic albums of 2017. But they both stray quite far from traditional dance music.
@Swae Lee Listened to Arca’s album several times since it came out. Appreciated and understood the deeply emotional context the album takes place in, wasn’t a huge fan of it unfortunately. The Range is great
The 2013 Jon Hopkins Boiler Room set is literally wild...I cannot believe I slept on that. Super pumped for that show
New Moomin LP announced today, and on one of my favorite labels! Dusty deep house, jungle and downtempo hip hop vibes. Clips sound good but nowhere near as good as A Minor Thought which is one of my favorite house records ever so peep that if you're feeling mellow
Holy shit, new LP from Studio Barnhus (label that brought us Kornel Kovacs, Baba Stiltz and Axel Boman) and it's out this Friday! Sounds incredible
Seeing Mura Masa DJ set tonight. But more importantly, I am seeing The Range tonight and the feelings are going to come out when he drops Florida.
