glad you all like it, that lp is a monster. i heard it a lot during hurricane irma and it was perfect music for that
Just need to gush for a sec. I've followed him since his early tape releases and he has been my favorite DJ for a couple years. April of this year I got to see him play a packed warehouse in Toronto and now he got picked for the most coveted radio mix in all of dance music. To see a meteoric rise from someone who I so thoroughly believe in is so surreal, not to mention he is my age. Only 25! Such a neat mix of sounds and Im only just over half an hour in. Also an unrealesed Yaeji tune and a collab in there somewhere Highly rec'd @brandon_260 Yaeji collab is an hour and twenty-two minutes in, magical
Supeerr pumped to see Andy Stott/Demdike Stare in a couple weeks. That and Levon Vincent on the 22nd are making December sneaky good for live sets
Haha thanks I wish I could keep up with as much music as you! I do what I can but I doubt I'll ever attempt to DJ or create any original tunes like some of the talented peeps in here
So I got a crazy cheap ticket for this thing next weekend & there looks to be a ton of good dance/ electronic artists I've never heard of playing so I'd very much appreciate any advice on who to check out: Schedule | Day for Night So far I have Thom, Jamie xx, Cashmere Cat & St. V as must sees but that leaves a lot of open time.
my suggestions: James Blake, Nina Kraviz, Perfume Genius, Gas, Mount Kimbie, Shlohmo, Tim Hecker, Andy Stott, Jessy Lanza, Jlin, Priests and Bjarki Pretty diverse mix there but all come highly recommended. Quite a lineup, you're very lucky!
My main conflicts right now are Perfume Genius / Jlin. And then Nina Kraviz/ Thom Yorke. IDK if I can pass up a relatively small Thom solo set but Nina looks & sounds like she's probably pretty awesome, at least from scanning youtube, etc. I think I'll probably end up checking out Gas, Mount Kimbie, Tim Hecker, Andy Stott, and Priests as well. Thanks for the suggestions!
Just saw GAS like a month ago and it was mesmerizing. Perfume Genius / Jlin is a nightmare conflict, but I saw PG this year and it was one of the best performances I've seen this year.
Yeah tbh I'll probably see PG and then run over and try to catch the end of Jlin before GAS. I'm not 100% sure of the stage setup but I think there's only one outdoors. Hopefully it's not too crowded inside.
So I would not call myself a huge electronic music listener, but I do enjoy good catchy house/dance songs. I am looking to expand my listening a bit, but don't know really know what or who to look for. Back in the AP days someone gave me a nice PM with a list of stuff that I really liked, but I only remember one song: Avicii feat. Nicky Romero - I Could Be the One. I can't get into the dubstep side of things at all. Even though the group became sort of an internal disaster and certainly has some dubstep leanings, I enjoyed Krewella's song Alive back in the day. I know those don't really fit under the underground label, but I figured people in this thread could probably recommend me some good edm house/dance songs to check out. Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post.
i went to a random party last year she played at and caught my attention ever since The 13 Best Mixes of 2017
Right? She's worked so hard playing all over the city and has promoted/brought in SO many artists over the years. I've never gotten to catch a set from her but this EP is her first releases, crazy to see it blow up but well deserved
I just found that she's playing in Toronto with Octo Octa the day after I get back from Barcelona. Gonna try real hard to go to that, just based on the strength of this track (and the fact that I haven't danced in a long time and I'm really dying to).
