First episode was phenomenal but I love being curious about when the source material was released and then finding out who did it /s
I could be totally wrong but I don’t remember the book being a mystery of who did it, it’s more just covering the murder, motive and fall out. Gona try to watch the first two episodes tomorrow. I have been banking a ton of shows so I can binge them and now I’m overwhelmed with no time to watch
absolutely the case. i don’t think the show posits it as such either. this doesn’t feel like a whodunnit at all
there are way too many Lafferty brothers haha gonna read the book after the show is over, somehow read Into Thin Air and Into The Wild but never this ; also if anyone is into this you may also like Prophet's Prey
That's what I always hope when I find things out, that either I misread it (and it helps not really being able to tell who is who yet), or that the mystery is mostly something else
Really enjoying this so far. Don't think I've seen Billy Howle (Allen) in much, but he's great in this.
Watched the finale last night. Pretty great show overall. Really enjoyed the performances from most of the cast, and I liked the way the history of the Mormonism was woven into the narrative and Jeb's struggle with his faith.
Not sure how I feel about this overall. Thought the finale was pretty bad, largely due to all the shit invented for the show. Pyre's wife being like "you're not a believer anymore I'm leaving" and then at the end being like "jk let's pray bby". Also needing Pyre to be involved with every aspect was kind of silly, between like 3 days he's catching and interrogating all of the family members, traveling all over the place, and getting into gun fights. I think it wanted to be more True Detective than a true crime show, and while I'm all for exposing Mormonism as a cult, I think it went a little over the top.
Using Allen as the “Mormon history exposition guy” is a convenient device, but it’s fucked that the show paints him as a good guy, victim and totally innocent when he knew his brothers were going to kill his wife and daughter and didn’t do anything about it.
in what way did he know his brothers were going to kill his wife? i mean, he's an idiot and probably should have known, but the show pretty clearly shows he did not. and, like, it's fictionalized storytelling, of course they paint him as totally innocent when, to be clear, he was totally innocent of killing his wife and infant daughter. apparently the real allen was a piece of shit that regularly beat brenda though. kinda glad that isn't the character portrayed on the tv show tbh
yeah, i thought the finale was great. i think, for this version of the story, it had to be Jeb who brought all the brothers in and hear all of their variations of belief, as well as Taba’s, in order to come to his own understanding of faith.
in real life he knew his family was on his brothers list and didn’t do anything about it. He’s a piece of shit
sure…. in real life he had three brothers that weren’t shown on the show at all and robin and the culkin one don’t exist lol
And I’m fine with them condensing/cutting stuff. But making a piece of shit who basically let his wife and child get murdered the sympathetic victim left a bad taste in my mouth.
